Could it also be a saving face thing, SA don't want their underdone World Champion side getting beaten heavily. I can see their point, tough spot to be in.

    Aus A

fuck yes, like old school World Series Cricket!! Even better if Aus A is packed full of the blokes about to shoot Aus to being one of the best teams ever

Heheh, top stuff. I remember the ACB eventually canned it because the crowds were supporting the underdog young blokes more than the main team.

Great while it lasted though, plus it could work for rugby as well ... y'never know. 😁

Re-read the reply and maybe I read a bit more into it and he knows fuck all:

The Springbok decision will be made tomorrow (Friday). The contingency is still TBC & I’m sure SANZAAR & the Unions are discussing what will occur in the event the Springbok’s do not travel, but this info has not been passed to us, yet, pending the outcome of the SA decision. From what I’ve been reading, there may be a Barbarian XV or a Wallabies ‘A’ Team made up of those that didn’t make the Wallabies’ first-team squad.

What we have heard, however, is that the Bledisloe Cup matches in Sydney (31 Oct) & Brisbane (7 Nov) remain unaffected & will proceed as scheduled.

Reports say the South Africans officially notified Sanzaar of their decision on Thursday night. An announcement is expected on Friday.

The Pumas had requested some warmup games (let's call them friendlies) so RA needs to accommodate them now.

@taniwharugby No idea TBH, I’ve not seen a list. It also hasn’t been confirmed exactly how/ when and for how long their NH guys are going to be involved.

No surprise with the Boks, they’ll keep their World No 1 for well over a year now! It’ll be the longest non-ABs time ever, I think. EDIT: It already is - took a pandemic to do it 😉

Crucially they've defended their status for a grand total of zero games...

But they’ll have held it for TWO WHOLE YEARS, minimum! Outside of NZ it has never been longer than a few months. An aceivement I am sure will be crowed about.

    Poor form.

Ruined the NPC to fit in the Bledisloes before this tournament.

    Very, very poor form.

I actually dont care about this year's TRC, apart from money. Just would have like to know earlier so we didn't butcher the NPC as usual to fit it in.

    @Rapido

    Huh?

Mitre 10 Cup runs until end of November so Bledisloe was going to impact Mitre 10 Cup whenever Bledisloe was played

Would have been great to have a Barbarians team or a Pacific Island 15 but understand the issues around that. Maybe a couple more North South fixtures at home to make some money?

@Rapido I actually like not seeing the ABs in the NPC. It allows us to watch the next generation of players which is the most exciting thing about the NPC for me. Many of them won't get selected if the ABs are in it.

How funny would it be if we won on Sunday, to retain Bled in the greatest of matches and then RC was canned and the AB's were released for the NPC! Happy days!
