<p>I think Greenpeace contracts out their collecting and those people are actually being paid commissions for signups. More likely to be desperate students and people willing to do anything for a promise of potential money so don't be too harsh on them. <strong>They are unlikely to actually believe in the cause.</strong></p>

<p>If you travel to work by train in Welly there is barely a day that goes by without some bucket being waved at you from collectors on the way out. I do like it when a grumpy morning coincides with the Catholic Support Services looking for money. Their pleas are usually answered with "tell the Pope to sell a painting'</p>

When I was a student I believed all kinds of nonsense, usually based on nothing more than corroborating opinions from other equally deluded students and the logic of false premises. You know - "Rainbow Warrior sinking is bad, Rainbow Warrior belongs to Greenpeace, therefore Greenpeace is good". Moronic and embarrassing.</p> -

<p>I got approached by a Greenpeace collector outside Countdown on the weekend. I said no thanks and then asked why she was wasting her time collecting for a large corporation when she could have been helping in a hospice or collecting for child cancer? Was it all about image for her?</p>
<p>She wasnt very happy, and to be fair.. I was a bit rude in doing that. But .. meh.. I am getting old and more curmudgeonly</p>

After mentioning how good the hill up to my place was for toning their bums, they asked if I knew about Greenpeace and liked their work. Things started to go downhill when I gave them the "meh" horizontal hand waver in response to that question.</p> -

<p>I drove through Hinuera (near Matamata) today and on one side of the street one of the local shops had the current NZ flag and on the other side the proposed flag.</p>

<p>Seeing them flying like that I definitely hope the new flag wins now. </p>

<p>All the pics I've seen have a really light blue but the ones flying seemed a bit darker blue which I think looks way better.</p>

<p>I've been polling all my friends since I've been in NZ and it's about 50/50. Funnily enough the two friends of mine I know who definitely vote National are two who are voting against the flag.</p> -

You are probably right. Key got Cullen to head the enquiry into the sis and gcsb to avoid leftards frothing about it being a whitewash . I think he missed a trick not making someone the leftards like the face of the campaign . Helen Clark would have been my pick .
