Nice one mate. I can see what you have done and I fully appreciate that food photos don’t reflect the awesome
    Flavour. Would definitely try that

So Friday night I drunkenly grabbed a pack of dirty ol Richmond sausages on the way home and cooked them up. I "bake" my bangers generally on a grill tray.

These left a shitload of fat behind, so I ended up using it for roast spuds today. Holy shit they might be the best I've ever made!

Any recommendations on buying a meat thermometer in NZ, or should I order one from amazon?

Budget? bbqsupplies.co.nz stock the firebird. I bought an inkbird on trademe. Links to your phone on Bluetooth, different models have different numbers of leads. The TM store ships direct from China

Thermapen are generally regarded as the best. I've had one for about 6 years, it's really good, lasts well and very fast and accurate. No major discounts though - it'll be about $120 or something. I think I got mine from Amazon UK when they were doing a sale.

If you're dabbling, you can get cheap moderately accurate from aliexpress for like $5.

OK, just googled thermapen NZ. $169. Really good thermometer

@canefan I have a Lavatools at home that cost US$55. Can stretch to US$100 as this is a gift.

@Tim also - wireless vs thermapen. I used 'in meat' thermometers for ages, but honestly once you get some experience I never found them worth it. Thermapen better readings, and for low/slow, it's the 'feel' more than the temp.

    @canefan Thermapen style.

This would mostly be used for steaks, lab leg, lamb rack on bbq.

So I’m seriously considering getting an offset smoker BBQ
I’ll either talk about it here or bring up some story involving kittens and water...

Depends on how hard you want to work for your meat

@Virgil what he said. It's cool sitting beside the firebox all day feeding it and drinking. Less cool if you wan tto pop out and do something, or go to sleep.

Pros: Looks awesome, authentic, drinking in the sun whiel bbq'ing compulsory

Cons: eats wood, needs constant attention, hard to control cheaper versions, needs constant attention 🙂

I agree, if you want one you are best to pay the money to buy a heavy one. Otherwise a kamado style barbie for ease of use and versatility, or an Oklahoma Joe Bronco for versatility and large capacity

I move back into my house in 2 months, and I will most certainly be bumping this thread again then for advice - heaps easier than scrolling up and reading stale advice.
