Yeah, there should also be "those who shouldn't" or "shouldn't be allowed" as well.

@Snowy I support people choosing to be childfree 100%. Live your best life, knowing what's best for you.

    The Simpsons said it best....

@Snowy I always remember one time at winz when I was unwell and getting assistance, being in line behind a woman on the dpb who told her (incredibly pissed off) caseworker that she was pregnant again. I think it was like #5 or #6. That old quandary, increasing money to feed/house innocent kids vs rewarding lazy skanky bitch.

Slightly off topic but it's always nice going to WINZ if you ever need motivation or to feel better about yourself. Some years back I had to go through the processes as I had been made redundant and the payout money was starting to dwindle.

Some people are just beyond help.

There definitely woman out there who see having kids as a career, the more they have the higher their DPB goes up. The amount they can get is ridiculous. They often hide the fact the dad is living with them as well..

I was thinking the same thing (having been through that redundancy thing, and thought I'd talk to WINZ about my options)

sure they (people at WINZ) likely deal with some of the real scum of society and it must wear them down, but plenty still need to learn how to deal with people better.

Yep. I had a Vicky Pollard renting a place off me for a while. Five or six kids by the time she left. Never missed a rent payment, though. Thanks WINZ.

The paperwork that myself and the ex wife had to go through was absolutely ridiculous. We had to set aside an entire afternoon just to get things done, not easy with a toddler and newborn.

I have no idea how genuine ferals even get on the DPB, do case managers just look at them, shrug their shoulders and approve their applications ?

But as you allude to, fuck working at WINZ, no wonder there is security at every site just in case feral families don't get more money approved in time when female feral pops out baby number eight.

@MN5 we deal with people on WINZ. Some are genuinely in a tough spot and they are often the ones who have no idea what they can claim for. Others seem to know exactly what they are eligible for and know what to say, pro WINZers

I just saw it as a money go round. I pay the tax to the government, the goverment gives it to Vicky (sort of) and then it gets given back to me.

Probably not that young anymore, on drugs and "raising" (loosley used term) her third child.

    Feral is as feral does?

I totally get that, I knew it was there for me if I needed it and had no qualms about going on the dole for a bit after years and years of honest tax paying.

But yeah, some will go on it and never get off. Mental or physical illness sure, but also just laziness.

No, and we have genuine concerns for her future. Given that her parents named her Metallica the kid may not have had the best upbringing, parental role models, not to mention the bullying at school and chance of employment with Metallica as the first word on her CV.

This thread can get a bit depressing.

As long as she's happy then nothing else matters.

A slight tangent on this seeing (some) parents try to gatekeep what education should look like, and that folks without kids should have less (or no!) say. It's like get the fuck out of here brah, education and those kids are going to contribute to what NZ looks like in the future so everyone has a vested interest, kids or not.

    @Mokey and @JC big ♥!!

I am increasingly concerned that the fern is the most nuanced and empathetic space for conversation in my life at the moment... actually I've just upgraded from concerned to terrified lol
