@junior lets not forget it had been a long time since we had a 9 with a great pass and the workrate of Smith, who knew his role was to clear the ball from every ruck, we had 4th loose forward 9's for many years, so Smith was a bit of a revelation at the time

I always go to that comeback v Ireland where SMith's pass and workrate was crucial to that last several minutes that lead to the try.

Couldn't agree more on both fronts.

We would not have won that match without Smith's quick passing at the death, which simply did not give the Irish defence any time to properly set and repel our attack.

Separately, there's a reason why people still remember and talk fondly about G Bachop.

Fuck I hate this hometown replay crap!

Where were the endless replays of the high hit on Cane earlier?

But fuck you are dumb SB!

I missed this at the ground. Completely missed it.

Thought the crowd was whinging at play being called back for a knock on by White.

Then I saw a caption on the big screen about being off feet and SB wandering off.

Will need to look at the recording.

@Bones The problem is both scenarios hurt the team equally. I have no issue with a player being suspended or dealt with after the game, but that players brain fart ultimately fucks the team and the spectacle.

So blame the player! You can't convince me that was a brain fart. As I said, imagine how good that hit would have been if Ofa lined him up like he lines up a scrum? If Ofa bends over and actually watches, there's no problem here. But he doesn't, he goes for the big high shot and turns his head away.

Funny. The Aussies around us were grumbling that the ABs will still win this 9 points up with 4 to play ...

@Bones Yeah, I do agree with you the more I think about it, the fact he made the hit, and he didn't lower his body position suggests he took a calculated risk and ultimately got it wrong. He should not have made the hit without lowering his body position in the first place.

I didn't like the TMO interfering. I don't think he is allowed to look at foul play, only dangerous play and tries.

Like what is the thinking eh...oh I'm on the ground with the ref looking directly at this open ruck but it's crucial this ball doesn't go out.

The ABs scrum inviolability on their own feed is now over after 25 games. Lomax's back pedaling against a youngster was not a good vision. Maybe having Aumua (1.79 m) between Hodgman (1.94) and Lomax (1.93) was altering the front row cohesion ?

@kiwiinmelb i'd like to see everything short of deliberate foul play or punches dialled back a step,

so like scrums and single off sides kind of stuff is a free kick (repeated becomes a penalty), poor form or accidents become penalties and then leave the cards for the really grievous stuff

At the risk of starting World War 2, and whilst I understand the rules mandate it, but there being an automatic yellow card for what Scott Barrett did seems to me absurd.

Neither dangerous, nor thwarting a try, just stupid. A penalty in that situation is an entirely sufficient sanction.

Yellow card was introduced to punish professional foul.

This was the definition of professional foul.

@pakman you also see it once everything so often, this is the first time that I've seen it brought up by the TMO, and resulting in a card. It's a penalty only, the abs weren't on a warning. Richie got one, but that was a trip from the ground. But ball slaps not that rare, never seen a card for it

so like scrums and single off sides kind of stuff is a free kick (repeated becomes a penalty), poor form or accidents become penalties and then leave the cards for the really grievous stuff

Fuck that. Cynical cheating should be stamped on hard. People misjudging the offside line / coming up too quick, hands in ruck a second too long are judgement errors. What SB did was not a mistake, it was deliberate, so fuck him and the whores he rode in on.

The ABs scrum inviolability on their own feed is now over after 25 games. Lomax's back pedaling against a youngster was not a good vision. Maybe having Aumua (1.79 m) between Hodgman (1.94) and Lomax (1.93) was altering the front row cohesion ?

Surely the first time that word has been used on the Fern. Nice.

There’s going to be some teething issues with some of these young front rowers.

Has to be one of the most inexperienced front rows to finish a test match against the Wallabies.

@pakman you also see it once everything so often, this is the first time that I've seen it brought up by the TMO, and resulting in a card. It's a penalty only, the abs weren't on a warning. Richie got one, but that was a trip from the ground. But ball slaps not that rare, never seen a card for it

@Machpants warning is irrelevant. Referee can opt to hand out a yellow at his discretion if the situation warrants it.

Player off his feet, at a ruck, offaide to boot, obstructing legal play. Against the spirit of the game if you like.
