Interesting contrast. Dhoni post match: "Our batsmen got themselves out. It's all the batsmens fault" (paraphrasing). Smith post match: "Credit to the way the NZ bowlers bowled in the middle stages".

I want to hate Smith because he's so fucking good but he isn't making it easy.

Timmy and Trent rush back tot he nets to practice their cutters, slower balls and back of the hand deliveries because that's what gets Mitch and Milne the nod

Milne was actually good today. He's quicker than most and that sets up his cutter from the side of his hand. The dramatic pace change. Those 2 he bowled to Maxwell (he's not so bright me thinks) were pretty much spot on but french cuts don't show up in stats (copyright MN5).

Hats off Hesson and Kane.

Batting still needs more ones and twos in the middle and ultra energetic running, but I don't know what pitches are like in the next 2 games.

Happy times though

Yep keep Milne unless/until he breaks down.

Always handy to have up your sleeve for blasting out lusty tailenders; especially now that T&T no longer have the raw pace required to do so.

England require another 59 runs with 6 wickets and 36 balls remaining

They might do this. Bonkers.

I was thinking that about the wickets, but quite ok to see Ind and Oz off on non roads. We got the pakis and a chance to make it at Chandigar - no idea about that surface, but in Kane we trust

Yeah - can't recall if we were seeded to make the semifinals - but, regardless I'm sure most people's expectations were that India and Oz would make it. Odds-on now that at least one of those teams will miss out. Guaranteed if we beat either Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Too right Don!

Their margins for error (four/six balls) are so small. For sure both teams would have planned to target them (especially a raw leggie) and simply haven't been able to. Santner showed when Marsh pummeled his half volley that he only needs to be a foot off and they'll whack it, yet for basically 2 games he wasn't a foot off.

Similarly as a Kohli, Maxwell, Marsh etal facing up to Ish must be thinking, "Ok here goes this'll be good Short I'll go way back, flighted I'll go down the track, or maybe I'll just stand and put it over cover", Sodhi gave them nothing. Nothing.

His pace through the air and his short of a length (combined with decent spin surface) was exemplary. In the end Maxwell basically panicked and tried to play left handed - that's not "well that's how he plays and when it comes off we love it so we have to put up with the failures", that's just "Waaaaa I'm supposed to smash this guy and I can't!"

Should have sent out gloves to him with the instruction "rock back and play him for one and two through the covers with a straight bat you fucken dolt. Then you, Gap tooth and NTA's favourite will hit the big shots at the end"

Just brilliant skill execution from two inexperienced bowlers against the best teams in the world in the biggest tourney of their lives.

Can't ask for much more than that!
