    @Victor-Meldrew Playing to type then?

I just think he's one of the best comic actors out there - perhaps unintentionally...

(He is//was a seriously good actor apparently - particularly on stage. Just went for the film and TV money instead)

I think its intentional. He was great as Danny Crane

He was a very good dramatic actor, used to do live TV back when they did live drama. The original Star Trek he was very serious, the hammy side came later.

The usual example rolled out is a film he did where he played a KKK guy. I've not seen it, just snippets, but he's supposed to great in that.

It's why he went through that stage of hating Star Trek, he hated being in that box.

Apparantly they got the cheers from the extras from yelling out their favorite sports teams. Did Shatner's wide shot with them once and then got out of town đŸ™‚

Roger Corman's The Intruder. Saw it yonks ago - Shatner's outstanding. One of Scorcese's top films IIRC.

John Nettles is similar. Known mostly for Bergerac & Midsomer Murders but he's one of the finest Shakespearean actors of his era

As the conversation has been steered towards Christmas movies - No one ever talks about this, but Cash On Demand (Hammer films) is one of the best Christmas movies. Its a low key heist movie, with most of the film taking place in one room, with dialogue between the robber, and the bank manager (Peter Cushing)

    Back To the Future

Watched it with my kids (8 & 6) for the first time. They absolutely loved it and and are so excited for the sequels.

In my view, certainly one fo the best movies ever made. Great plot to make you think, really enjoyable watching and some great character acting too. Fox's finest hour.

    Matrix 4

I'm thinking they should've recast this sequel.

Exactly the sort of shit that can happen to the lead female eye candy when the director brothers become the director sisters.

    Predator

One of Arnie's 80s classics. I remember seeing this movie on the big screen with my friends when it was released, and had seen it again a few times since, but I can't remember watching it this millennium. What's not to like? The right mix of action and sci-fi, humorous one-liners and the ultimate predator.

@Bovidae a good cast too. 80s pro wrestling star Jesse the Body Ventura was notable at the time, and Carl Weathers

Bill Duke and Sonny Landham too.

Google the latter. He was mad as a meat axe.

I got a 3-movie Predator Blu-ray box set in the Black Friday sale for $10. Granted the sequel and 2010 movie aren't as good but I look forward to watching them.

@MN5 I started watching the Predator special features last night and the point was made about the studio hiring a bodyguard for Sonny Landham. Not to protect him, but to prevent Landham doing anything stupid like fighting on set.

The latest remake is apparently really bad. Worse than the 2010 version if that’s possible.

I didn't think that the 2010 version was that bad when I watched it back then. It will be interesting to see if a rewatch changes my mind for better, or for worse.

I haven't seen the 2018 movie and have no intention of doing so. The director and writer of the 2018 disaster just happened to play Hawkins in the Arnie movie. Shane Black has been involved in some decent movies but this won't be one he includes on his resume.

    Not enough.

I've got a great idea for a chase and fight scene, but can't fit it in the movie.

    No worries, we'll make another

Ok, but we'll need to write a script

Yeah, let's not worry too much about that...
