Strange he is doubling down when all international press says 10 years. Although having read his article, he has obviously got a few screws loose.

Both NZR and SARU, and AR with respect to their Super teams, have shown that rugby agreements aren't worth the paper they're written on. So he might well be correct

    @Machpants
On balance I'll still take the global press over the ramblings of a stir-crazy saffa.

'The concept of a centralised TRC is very possible' - SANZAAR set to consider tournament format after Tri Nations success

Rugby's SANZAAR says it's open to the concept of again playing a centralised tournament-style competition following the success of the Tri Nations in Australia.

One big positive would be far less travel for the players.

although with SA back in, I'd be more inclined to just play one another 1 time, and if they really want another game, have a 1-2 play off and 3-4?

Or, is this where they bring in an Island side?

CReating a bye weekend helps reduce the impact of multiple games over consecutive weeks

If, I know it's crazy talk, you read the article the CEO said that they now know it works in a single location. Not that a single location is an aim, just that you can do it if you need to

“Another positive from this competition has been the realisation from the members that if required in future years, the concept of a centralised TRC is very possible with the prospect of double-header rounds a huge benefit for the local fans and wider broadcast audience across the four geographies.”

I like the idea of a centralized comp in one place with double headers. Give each member nation a defined year to host it, agreed in advance at the inception of the broadcast deal.

Either a straight 3 week tournament with no byes, or play twice over 7 weekends with the bye in the middle. No nonsense playoffs/finals pls, just a straight points table like the 6 Nations.

It's more like the RWC that way, so better preparation.

Hell, while you're at it add in Japan and a Pasfika side and make it triple headers. Then it becomes a 5 week tournament, or 6 with a bye weekend, exactly like the 6 Nations.

Basically the 6 Nations is the best tournament format, and they have the advantage of low travel. Having TRC all in one place each year makes it possible to mimic this successful format more closely.

@TeWaio yeah it's not a bad idea, although I think maybe to make it "come around" a bit quicker, perhaps 2 countries a year as hosts.

True, but how do you cluster them? Aus/NZ obviously works, but SA/Arg criss-crossing the Atlantic is still a lot of travel, are there even direct flights?

Pasifika side couldn't host out of the islands due to lack of infrastructure. And Japan is nowhere near any other the others.

@TeWaio yeah I'd figured it was probably best to go one country then another, rather than flit back and forth between the two.

My clairvoyance was. I said before it started that Foster's coaching isn't up to very much but Rennie should be competitive. And I don't even follow the Chiefs that much.

    Wow really?

Not sure if you've advanced your opinion on Foster previously.

    Tell us more.

They didn't even sell out venues to half full. Stupid idea, as unlike the 6 Nations you get fuck all traveling fans and a much lower engaged in rugby population
