As you may guess, I'm updating my "signings" list.
Chase Tiatia also still had a year to go on his Hurricanes contract.
I'm confused, how do these contracts work? I know, they sign with NZR because of the central contracting, but isn't there also a contractual relationship with the franchise?

Unless the franchise is happy to let them transfer out to make way for someone they rate more highly.

Alaimalo was granted a release from the final year of his Chiefs contract to join the Highlanders. I guess the franchise has to agree to the players request for an early release, and have a suitable replacement.

Seems likely that the Blues are signing Chocobarres, but wondering if there are any rumors about who the Chiefs are chasing for their final squad position? Is it likely to be an outside back/midfeilder?

@Daffy-Jaffy Don't they keep that spot open for Retallick?

Apart from the Highlanders, the Chiefs also have one less lock compared to the other NZ teams. They will be light on outside backs if Nanai-Seturo is on sevens duty for the most of the season. I don't think they need another midfielder with 4 + Wainui. Lowe as well if required.

Apart from the Highlanders, the Chiefs also have one less lock compared to the other NZ teams. They will be light on outside backs if Nanai-Seturo is on sevens duty for the most of the season. I don't think they need another midfielder with 4 + Wainui. Lowe as well if required.

Although both those teams also opted for an 8th loose forward, one more than the others. Maybe Brown covering 6/lock. Do we know when is Retallick due back?

@Daffy-Jaffy I mentioned previously that all articles say his NZR contract starts from May next year.
I DON'T want Brown to play lock.

@Bovidae Excellent. I miss watching that big machine play. So he should get the whole Trans Ta$man comp to get him up to speed for the international season.

Me too, terrible call if they go down that route.
It would probably make us stronger but at the expense of developing a local talent. Yuck.

I would rather win the comp than develop talent that ends up being rubbish

He’s better, but that’s not a good enough reason for me - we need to hold on and develop our existing options as he’ll only stick around for a year.
We could also argue that putting Dmac at 10 might be our best option - at least that would open up 15 for Trask.
