My prediction of the Bolt women winning wasn't looking too good after day 1.
The teams that came through were the ones with a little more experience on pacing themselves through the two days. Mikkleson hardly lifted a finger on day one. It’s down to the coaches approach. Are they looking to win or to develop? Best argument is that you can end up doing both.

I don’t know what happened with the idea that sevens players leaned down from their XVs bodies too much. There were some massive units playing.
We were just down at the beach and all the players had to do an ocean dip before the post tournament reviews. Some impressive gym work.
The tackle hits are easily as hard as XVs now as well. The sevens game has really evolved since the Titch days. -
The Condor Sevens start this Thursday, 10 December.
A reminder: to prevent tournament clashes caused by a condensed sports schedule, the open boys and open girls tournaments are on Thursday and Friday, and the U15s boys and girls tournaments on Saturday and Sunday.

As you'll notice, they have to play 4 games on day 1! That's a lot. Someone on Facebook mentioned that that is because many schools pulled the plug. Not sure whether that would be because of the costs of fielding a team (travel, accommodation etc), scheduling on a weekday, or for another reason.

Next week is different though. Usually the Condor top teams play alongside overseas teams with a Baabaas/World VII to capture others. This year there are invitational teams based on 'representing' Samoa/Nuie/Maori etc which will be made from Condor players that didn't qualify plus a Baabaas team. -

I can't remember ever seeing a general Baabaas/World VII team at the World Schools 7s though and I've followed it every year. Last year, there was a Fijian team from Fiji and a NZ Fiji team; same with Tonga and Samoa IIRC (some of these teams are called "Barbarians"; players have sometimes opted to play for these teams, despite being selected for the NZ Condor team). There were also Canadian, US and Australian teams (including an indigenous team) and other PI teams (among others). Unfortunately, that's not possible this year. So there will be fewer teams, this year, with only NZ based players. That's why they're calling it World School Sevens Aotearoa.
There has always been a NZ Maori team, consisting of Maori players not selected in the NZ (Condor) team.

Cheers. I am just going by the draw where there is a NZ Barbarians in both boys and girls. I thought that the Condor teams this year are just for Condor players.
Anyway, caught a bit at lunchtime and boy does it look lightweight compared to Ignite. No wonder the likes of Miller do well as they can hold their own against the grownups. This possibly applies a little more to the women than the men as they had more school age players -
Jorja Miller was the Girl's MVP but couldn't win it by herself for CGHS, as she did last year. Howick College coached by Waisake Sotutu beat Manukura 12-5 in the final.
Hamilton BHS made it 6 in a row in a tough final over Kelston (14-10). Kelston are big and physical. Unfortunately a serious injury to a Kelston player just after HT meant a long delay.
I thought Payton Spencer might have been in the HBHS team but I see on the news he is playing in the Gillette Cup 1st XI tournament in Chch.

@Bovidae Great to see Cooper Flanders named in that team! Hastings Boys' didn't go too well this year, but he was outstanding. Didn't expect them to pick him because of that, but fortunately, his individual performance was noticed.
