Cameron Green prepared to tune out the hype as he enters a new Sheffield Shield season

Young all-rounder Cameron Green became one of the most talked about youngsters in the country last season after his scintillating Sheffield Shield form with many mentioning his name for Australian selection, not that he took any notice.

    Strokes the ball nicely, mind.

From a rough tally of an older article, five of his concussions are from batting (plus one from playing Aussie Rules when he was younger, one from an accident at home, one from fielding, and one from "Completing a quick single, Pucovski’s bat jammed in the turf and his momentum threw him forward, landing heavily and hitting his head on the ground").

That sounds like a recipe for disaster. What odds his concussion from the quick single etc. are a result of previous head knocks?

I see kohli had a bit of a whinge about not being allowed to review after seeing the reply. What rubbish, glad the umpires held their ground. Steve Smith was rightfully pilloried when he looked to the sideline for guidance, and this is about as bad.

Might be more injury problems for the Aussies

Green bowling to Bumrah in the Indians v Aus A match. The ball gets hit straight back and smashes Green in the head. Really hard contact but he walked off ok.

This year everyone expected some new blood via Green and Pucovski. Both might be out with concussion

Young gun Cameron Green will make Test debut if passed fit, says Langer

Young gun Cameron Green will make Test debut if passed fit, says Langer

The all-rounder is set to play in the first Test if he shakes off concussion but the Australia coach said a final decision had not been made on who would open.

Justin Langer has declared Cameron Green will make his Test debut in Adelaide on Thursday as long as he has recovered fully from a concussion suffered while bowling at the SCG last Friday.

The Australia coach said on Tuesday a final decision on who would open in the first Test against India not been made, although he ruled out any chance of Marnus Labuschagne being promoted to the top of the order.

However, with the inclusion of Green it appears a middle order player will have to stand in as an opener and while he didn't confirm it would be Matthew Wade, Langer said the Tasmania captain would be able to handle the responsibility.

Green's selection would mean either Joe Burns or Marcus Harris won't make the line-up at Adelaide Oval.

I presume it will be Wade to open with Harris? Burns is in terrible form.

The other left field name that was suggested as an opener was Paine. Wade makes more sense.

first test starts this arvo. Day/Night test should be fun.

Australia, for the top side in the world, have some serious issues. At this stage their opening bats look like being a converted keeper who averages 30, and a guy who dead set cannot buy a run.

They will be followed in by the guys expected to score the bulk of the runs (with some justification i might add, their records are ridiculous). The middle order is new or not great.

They are a team built on 4 fucking good bowlers, Smith, Loose Bus Change, and Warner (as long as the game is in Australia).

Right now, if an honest Trans Ta$man XI was put together, we are contributing a decent number of players.

India only have Kohli for this test, so they really need to win it. Their attack has looked okay, but not great on tour so far. But they will be bloody dangerous at twilight.

Should be a bloody good game

I struggle to agree with that after you guys totally shat the bed here last year.

Can't wait for this series, I'd expect us to have the edge overall but I can still vividly remember Bumrah and Pujara both killing us two years ago so an Indian win wouldn't shock me.

Have really missed Test cricket this year, will be great to have it back.

that's a fair comment, that tour was a fucking disgrace. And our low point over the past few years.

because Aus, India, and England do what ever they want, and what Australia wants is to play at home all summer.

we shat the bed, but that doesn't mean individuals (particularly bowlers) didn't go well. We went in underdone, got crocked with heat and injuries, and just didn't manage to get out the Aussie top batsment. THings went downhill from there.

Wags bowled like a demon - consistently troubled Smith in his home conditions.

The 2015 tour Kane averaged 85, and Rosco 78 ... so that last tour probably isn't the most representative of our capabilities.

    https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/batting/most_runs_career.html?id=10223;type=series

If you were combining, I'd be looking at Kane, Wags, and then maybe some of Rosco, Southee, Boult

but we would be lucky to get one in the attack. Maybe Boult over the inconsistent but rapid Starc.

Isn't Wags more likely to get in there as some variation as fourth seamer?

Best 4th seamer in the history of the game arguably

yeah. if, and it's a big if, we take a 4th seamer. You could argue Cummins bats well enough to push up to 7, but that's a stretch.

Actually BJ would definitely be in the conversation with paine as well. Paine is a stand in because they needed a skipper after Smith was unable to stop people being a bit naughty.
