I wouldn't take someone who was obese because they'd have trouble fitting under houses and up in a roofspace. Oddly enough when I was an apprentice most of the older guys were fat buggers and now they aren't so much anymore at all.

Let's hope the poster/likers with a combined 75,000-odd TSF posts aren't avoiding hiring Fatso on the grounds that he might be a lazy time waster... 🙂

I never said lazy time waster but I doubt anyone would enjoy the humiliation of not being able to do their job because they were too big.

In a trades context and confined spaces - absolutely.

In an office context, it'd have to be very close between two candidates before I'd be too worried about weight. The best worker I've ever had was (at the time) seriously large, yet compared to her skinnier counterparts...

I had a mate who was a chef and opened a restaurant with his brother , when it came to picking waitresses they ranked them on hotness and experience . Hotness counted for about 70% of their hireability vs experience , I can't fault his logic there really .

Nope, definitely not. My reasons are more for the business, but also some personal, selfish, arsehole ones. I should point out I'm talking about superfat / obese people only. Being a few pounds/kilos above ideal is very different to being 50kg above.

The way you look and present yourself matters. How are you supposed to be able to look after other peoples money, if you can't look after yourself. I'm not going to wheel out some fat bastard as a new hire in front of some of our clients, it's just not a good look. And like nobody likes watching a drunk have a drink, or an addict shoot up, I don't like watching fat people eat unhealthy food. Shithouse thing to say? Yep, but factual.

I have a rather obese sister and I'm the first to admit, that I don't handle it too well. My perceptions of her, certainly taint my entire view of the obese class. The thing that really really really fucks me off, is that 2-3 weeks (just weeks) of healthy living, would make such a noticable change, and the effects of losing weight are snowball, you make that first step, you get motivated, you want to do better and BOOM. But the fact they just won't do it, be it due to addiction or whatever, it just really grinds my gears. That and she's a leftard civil servant socialist.

My sister was massive then she went to weight watchers and lost heaps and two years down the track she's put most of it back on . I think keeping it off is just as hard as losing it .
My mum was pretty huge too , she had s gastric bypass which was successful and she lost so much weight she ended being a counsellor for other people having the same surgery. She told me about one woman who was so stuck in the rut of being obese and afraid of what life was like being thinner that she after her surgery she ate crap like kfc potato and gravy and milkshakes to stall it . Obviously every case is different but I'm sure in a lot there's a mental aspect to it too.

absolutely a mental aspect to it all imo, often something from pretty early on in life. That person I was referring too had a torrid time with bullying (big at school) and that has coloured their perspective about body image etc. A work mate has made a couple of attempts to talk about 'it' but has been rebuffed pretty hard. They have a bunch of young kids and it's sad to think that those eating patterns might get passed on, and/or that the person might not be around due to health issues.

Why are you all talking about fat chicks instead on continuing the thread focus on breasts?

Not something I saw on the Internet, but something I found in a box at home along with a stack of Asterix, Tintin, and some school books Mum sent.

I'd kind of forgotten they were there after we moved house, and had just put them away. I always found this book a bit odd with the strange place names, and wondered why the fuck the Gun Runners talked like gronks.

In later years, I understood.
