@Victor-Meldrew I wondered how long it would be before someone posted that 🙂

Shame there's no original audio of "The batsman's Holding the bowler's Willey"

@dogmeat @Victor-Meldrew There was also a passage of commentary between Waddle and others (for some reason I think John Morrison as opposed to Coney, and perhaps Blowers from a test in the early 90s.)

Match was meandering and it was just one of those anecdotes that built and built. By the end the crowd in the stadium (all had trannies) were pissing themselves and the players were wondering WTF?

IIRC itstarted with Blowers asking about Morrison's test wickets. But I may be conflating incidents.

Heard it replayed once on Radio Sport I think by Graham Hill. But it seems it may have been buried as I recall others ringing and asking for it to no avail.

        @booboo

Would be great to hear that.

Jonathan Agnew is brilliant at double-entendres. When a batsman was taping the handle of his bat after the rubber sleeve had split, he started talking about how hard it was to put a rubber on....

I shared this in another thread but I don't think anyone saw it.

          Watch it, great comedy.

100%. But we’re 40 something year old blokes on a forum not 60 something cricket commentators haha.

Made me laugh. Not easy to do today.

O'Keefe annoys me because he laughs at his own jokes and yet some of what he says is quite funny and he is sharp.

I can't stand it when people laugh at their own jokes EXCEPT O'Keefe. His laugh is truly infectious.

I love him on the commentary

@Damo I meant to and then forgot. Boycott actually took it quite well both before and after the wind up was revealed.

@Damo Boycott never enjoyed much success against us. Only 2 centuries in 15 tests and an average of 37/38. Plus was captain when England lost to us for the first time ever.

I’m no Boycott fan but the batting stats for relatively few tests aren’t awful for those days. Captaincy...well it’s out of him and Botham who was the worst captain in relation to player.

Bit of a disaster as captain on that tour, think he was deliberately run out by his own team once.

That said, I recall Hadlee saying that Boycott was the first and only English player into the NZ dressing room after that loss and made a lot of friends with the way he took the defeat.

@Victor-Meldrew My F-I-L (not a Yorkshireman) knew Boyc's and had a lot of time for him. said that while he was a prickly bastard it came from feelings of insecurity and paranoia, but that some it was justified. Yeah he was selfish but he genuinely believed what was best for him was also good for the team. Also while Boycott didn't help himself there was also a lot of dressing room jealousy. Said once he relaxed Boycott was good company, albeit one of those guys that could get sulky very quickly at a real or imagined slight.

My abiding memory of him was when Alan Donald and Atherton (I think) were having a right old battle during a Test at Headingly and the crowd started booing Donald in a pretty ugly way.

Boycott was on the radio and went incandescent with rage at the crowd's treatment of Donald on his home ground. Really lost it but, it has to be said, for all the right reasons. Get the impression he values sportsmanship and respect for opponents really highly - if not his own team
