    @Victor-Meldrew bro we've got too much food. You're welcome to sit out in the backyard and feed off what we throw out the sliding doors, it's just us two.

    @Bones
    Ha ha! I've actually got a 6 person Christmas dinner in the freezer.

    I'm probably going to have a rib-eye I bought from the farmer opposite a month or so back with a 1999 Kalimna Bin 28, some Delia Smith Christmas Pudding Ice Cream & finish off the 1/8 bottle of Johnnie Walker Green Label. This will need to be worked around the Zoom call schedule.

    Arguably the most apt description I've heard of life at the moment...

    Nice choice. I've still got two bottles sitting in the wine fridge of this vintage, plus some more of the 2003.

    Under-rated bottle when it came out but has aged very nicely.

    Cheers

    @RoninWC Bin 28 being Shiraz? If so, I think I’ve tried it but only relatively young. Sadly we don’t seem to get much of the good SH stuff up here.

    Bought 6 bottles of 2000 Birchwood McLaren Vale Shiraz a year or so ago. Bargain at £14 a bottle.

    Loving the "Fuck Covid but by Christ we'll make the best of what we can" attitude in here. It's obviously pretty shit, but I hope Christmas is enjoyable despite Covid's worst efforts.

    Yep. Keeps forever.

    I'm starting to move away from Bordeaux and taking a punt on decent Oz reds. Stick ing with Rioja & Chateau Musar as dependable, reliable reds.

    Looks like the worst will be over by Spring with the vaccine roll-out. Just in time to get the GSX out again...

    What can you do?

    To be honest, on all the WhatsApp chats I’m on most ppl are being very British. Keep Calm and Carry On.

    Yeah ppl are annoyed, but the UK has always done Xmas right. Indulge, enjoy, deal with the fallout later.

    Yes, a Shiraz from Barossa in SA.

    Not sure if you have seen but on the most recent just dropped episode of The Grand Tour, Captain Slow James May is driving a Caterham around Reunion Island.

    After watching the episode, I now have a much greater appreciation for that car, hats off @MajorRage

    Oz reds can be great, but I really struggle with the last few years of Shiraz, particularly from the Barossa. The warmer temperatures have meant they really struggle to keep the alcohol down, and its really hard to find one with less than 14.5%, often a full 1% higher.

    I prefer McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Clare Valley more now.

    Wirra Wirra McLaren Vale is a ripper especially at the price.

    @mariner4life

    Is that this one?

    Its a bit hard to get Oz wines, but ill look out for it.

    Here at the gt12 household, we are gearing up for our first ‘kid knows what Xmas is’ Xmas, so its kind of cool, because I’ve been kind of over Xmas itself and only really focused on opening a few nice bottles (which will, of course continue). My boy is into it though, so we’ve put up a tree and will be doing our first Xmas eve wrap presents / put them under the tree for him. We’re thinking to have a ‘stocking’ from Santa and big gifts from us - we’re not sure whether having ‘big’ gifts from Santa is the way to go [advice?]

    Because we cant go home, we are trying to carry on some traditions and start some new ones. We have one friend in our bubble coming over on Xmas, so at least it won’t just be my wife and I wrangling the boy. Given the situation of the guys in the UK, that feels like a luxury - I was pissed that I’m not in NZ, but now I’m just glad that we can have a friend over. 2020 ay?

    We are planning to have a bottle of something fortified (I’m thinking Marsala this year as I was given a nice-ish bottle) while we do the presents under the tree on Christmas Eve to start a new tradition.

    We’re shipping our boy off to pre-school in the morning of Xmas as they are having a party with a Santa visit (its a regular work day here so pre-school is running), so we’ll have a Champagne brekkie (I have a couple of bottles of a nice-ish non dosage) with Lamb chops, bacon, and eggs. That’s a tradition we are continuing from my family - breakfast is usually our most important Xmas tradition (my old mans I usually knock over the lamb in the week before Xmas - so ordering it online certainly made that easy this year).

    We’ll then get the boy and do Xmas lunch (Ham, foie gras). I think we’ll start with a pineau des charentes (with the foie gras) then an Etna Bianca and Etna Rosso with the ham and cheese (thank you fromages_dot_com - highly recommend btw)

    In the evening once the boy goes down, assuming we can still eat, we’ll be having cassoulet with a CDP and possibly also a bottle of Coleraine or a Pavillon Rouge. As long as we live here, I think that the Xmas Cassoulet could become a new tradition (Im cheating btw, I ordered it from an amazing French place in town). That place starting take-away cassoulet might be one of the best thing to come out of this shitty year.

    As far as having a bunch of random Polish birds for internet chat goes, you guys are pretty good, so I hope that everyone can stay safe, at least, and with luck next year will be a bit better. Merry Xmas all.
