So surely bat two sessions and bowl after tea must be the plan? Set target around 400?

Few strike wickets key for Pakistan. Although it seems pitch is easy to stay in, but not score runs

I wonder if they pull out before tea to have one of those tricky short sessions before a break. We lose three overs but that shouldn't make a difference.

Cummins is the best of the Aussies. Not enough Tests to make your rankings?

You're right, and I'll admit to somewhat overlooking him due to the lesser number of tests he played compared to the other two. He took a while to break into the test team, but the number don't lie, he is world class and it's pretty laughable that the Englishmen were picked ahead of him and the other Aussies.

Thought Cummins and Shakib Al Hasan would be contenders and Watling not far off

Question: if we play Australia at Lords in the final, is it with a Dukes or Kookaburra?

I asked the same question a while back and nobody seemed to know.

All that I could find was this comment:
*"The rules as stated say it's up to the home board. Which would practically be the team that tops the chart at the end. However the ICC will be releasing the playing conditions specifically for the final early-ish next year that can (and probably will) change that.

There were reports going around a few months ago it would be Dukes. I've heard it's more likely to be the ball brand neutral to both teams so we'll see what happens."*

I wouldn't rely on that sauce either.

This is the kind of situation where having CdG to come in at 3 or 4 and blast a quick 50 would be really handy

Speaking of milestones, Southee takes 2 in an over to leave Pakistan at 60/5, and he moves to 298 test wickets - 2 to go to be our 4th bowler to reach 300.

4th? Hadlee and Vettori both passed 300 wickets. Is there another player who I can't remember?

Mr AN Other? Have corrected my post.

Good start today, I reckon we declare around 200 or 250 and then have a go at them.

Pleased that Blundell is getting some runs, he was our only batsmen who hadn’t got a good score this summer.

The next hour or two should be quite entertaining as we chase quick runs.

Seems as good a spot as any to post this. I wouldn’t have Stokes, Boult, Starc or Hazelwood possibly sneak in or maybe AB De Villiers depending on the team balance ?....rest seems ok though

Genuine question ... does anybody remember the English bowling attack being the best of the decade?

It may well be a fair reflection of the decade results, I honestly don't know.

Starc-Hazlewood-Steyn would put the shits up most batting lineups.

Anderson has a pretty handy record overall but isn't really a stand out. No way in hell Broad should be there.

If we're going by stats then I don't seen how Vernon Philander misses out - 22 average with a 50 strike rate which is significantly better than all of the other contenders.

Really it should be Steyn - Philander - Starc/Hazlewood.

Steyn is miles ahead of everyone with a 22 average and 42 strike rate. He was some player.

Anderson probably makes it given his high caliber bowling over the entire decade. Hazelwood came into the Oz test side in 2014. Was rotated a little bit but he makes it ahead of Broad in my side.

Starc has been a bit up and down at test level.

Cummins is the best bowler in the world over the last two years, but he’s only played 30 tests even though he made his test debut as a teenager 10 years ago.

Idyllic day here at bay oval. First time I have clapped the 50 for all top six batsmen in a match and a test to boot

Shows the strength of the Aussies that our current quartet is probably our best ever as a quartet, and aren't even as good as the current Aussie crop.

Latham falls, 139/2. The old firm gets another run at batting an opposition out of a test.

They are not doing a good job of upping the scoring rate. They will be disappointed.

Liking this cos you’re right. For similar reasons we only have one player in the team of the decade despite a multitude of very good, but not world class, players.

That's a reasonably ballsy declaration, 400 is a psychological hurdle. We really should have gotten a move on earlier.

That said if they get 370 they will well and truly deserve it, and they're more likely to take risks if they think they are a chance. Good to see us really pushing for the win.

Boult and Southee have wicket each, Pakistan 0-2. 3 wickets might be an underestimate
