Jamieson not backed up by his fellow quicks today on the whole. Pakistan will be very happy with this having lost the toss and being sent in. Especially with the way the ball has been swinging.

@Donsteppa Boult seems to be another glaring example of the idiocy of changing your bowling action jut for the hell of it........

Oz use both snicko and hotspot, but from memory snicko is seen as the gold standard of the two

They certainly give batsmen out with Snicko on the faintest of noises. I don't like it, but at least it's consistent

@Stag he's still getting it through in the high 130s. What changed out of interest?

NZ take the new ball and Southee and Boult take a wicket each, 293/9.

@nzzp I’ve just heard the commentators talking about him haven’t made some changes. He Seems to be far less dangerous and go for heaps more boundary’s now

Interesting to hear and read comment that Pakistan would have been happy to get close to 300. Valid, yeah except they were bowled out on Day 1. That means the test is well advanced and NZ (who do have a very strong batting lineup) get to bat on potentially the best 2 days for batting. If you'd offered me having Pakistan all out on day 1 for just under 300 I'd take it like a shot, particularly as we need to win every test now to have a chance of qualifying for the WTC final now that the ICC have effectively changed the rules for qualification where the longer test series allow for individual test results to have far less impact on the qualification criterion.

And yet again we get screwed on the FTP with us only scheduled to play 4 tests in 2021.

His action as far more front on/square on than it used to be. He used to be much more side on. It has definitely changed.

It might be to prevent injury.

The score may have looked better with an angry Wags making batsmen uncomfortable but holy shit, what can you say about Jamieson ? is he a good player with a fantastic start to a test career or is he a genuine great in the making ?

    I'm hoping the latter obviously.

A genuine NZ great in the making for sure. How he ends up compared to the rest of the world remains to be seen but I'm hoping he'll end up with a bowling average in the low 20s and batting average in the high 20s/low 30s. Has all the attributes, bowls within himself, and mentally hasn't struggled to make the step up. Such an exciting talent.

It’s pretty hard to say about the latter but the former looks to be a given thus far.

If the last 10 or so years has proven anything it’s that there’s no reason we can’t have test players who are as good as anyone in their eras. Our current team is full of them.

3 catches landing in front of the slips & still not moving forward. Pure stupidity 🤦‍♂️

On top of the edges falling short McCullum was talking about the keeper moving closer due to the late swing to cut down the angle. BJ had a tough day but could have made it easier on himself.

Well the thing is a flash on the bat could have come from anywhere ...

    ... I'm not still bitter ...

Llong's fuck up was the perfect illustration why they overrate snicko.

    Pakistan all out for 297.

Probably about 50 more runs than I'd have preferred.

He's certainly had a very promising start, and it definitely helps being mentored by Southee, Boult and Wagner.

I think a lot of NZ's history has had at least one highly-regarded player at any given time, and perhaps from the late 70s onwards we've had a few (Turner, Hadlee, Wright, Smith, M Crowe were all top shelf players in the late 70s/80s), but for all that, certainly agree that the current team and last decade have the most.

Same, probably the difference between Wagner and Henry, and some fielding errors.

Not to relitigate the Test XI, but Smith would have moved forward... 🏏 🎣

Not sure which bowlers in the Smith keeping era were getting the sort of bounce and swing that we see from the current crop of NZ bowlers... 😉

Sounds like someone needs to read ‘Rhythm and Swing’ by the Sultan of swing Sir Paddles Hadlee
