Thought I'd start a new one after sampling a superb offering from a micro-brewery in Matakana (Leigh Sawmill Brewery) on the Auckland side of halfway between Auckland and Whangarei.

Got 4 different ones to try, and today I tried the Pale Ale, one of the best I have tasted in a long while!

Mrs TR had bought some for me today, after I had been out and bought the new Tui Blond to try, I will have to try it on a clear palate, as it is rubbish in comparison to the Leigh Pale Ale.

Looking at thier website (http://www.sawmillbrewery.co.nz) it is not available North of Matakana, nor south of a couple of stores in Auckland.I'm stuck at work this arvo (it's dead) so decided to have a lurk around outside of the sports threads.... I'm only 11 years late to this one!
Look at you TR, you trend setter... into the craft beers in 2009, before they became cool aye.
I am hoping it's been 11 years since you purchased a filthy Tui?The sawmill pilsner is one of my fav's

How did I not know about this guy before
Well worth visiting if passing through Oamaru but make sure you have a driver for the next leg.
Spent way too much on Xmas pressies for myself there. -

#metoo but it is also my local so I am slightly biased.
Nice to have them back in business after the roof burnt off. Caused by spontaneous combustion of unpacked drycleaning apparently. I kid you not, and had no idea that could happen.

Lucky bastard. I love Leigh. My grandfather farmed around there. Gorgeous place.

@dogmeat I like Mexican beers. Then again when I was crawling out of a canoe in the Chiapas, laden with 4 kg of hungry insects in suffocating humidity and food so spicy it kicked my brain out of my mouth I drank anything.
I think you’ve explained your own point. Mexican beers are pretty poor without line or lemon and when the day isn’t that warm

@voodoo Ename Belgium? If that is where I think it is, a monastery that makes their own beer and chocolate.
Shit man, this is the beer thread, you need to use the quote function. I can't remember what I drank last night let alone what I posted about drinking weeks ago!

I might well live on a part of his land, who knows? There is still a lot of farmland around. I bought it about 18 years a go but the farm was divided up well before that.
Leigh Eats (the old fish and chip shop ,down the road from the actual fishery) does awesome takeaways. Unfortunately he closes at 4pm though.
The "beer feud" of a few years ago was actually good for me as I ended up with an extra pub to go to (until the roof burnt off - fixed now) along with all of the vineyards.
A bit of Leigh / Sawmill history:
Nice that these guys all helped them out after the fire so the brand kept going. Hallertau, Urbanaut, 8 Wired, Kererū and Parrotdog.

Got bored at work so left 20mins earlier than needed to get the kids from school and treated myself to a beer at this little bottlo nearby that has some tables outside. Haven’t had a blonde (beer or otherwise) for a while , pretty good!
Edit, fucking portrait, sorry
We can remember it for you wholesale.

Heading to Christchurch and Akaroa in a couple of days for a romantic getaway.
So given that there's only so much sex and sightseeing we can possibly do any brewery recommendations will be gratefully received.
Skite!
I know. I'm not as young as I used to be.

Following a night testing craft beers Mrs Antipodean and I went to Ocean Park. There we proceeded onto a VR rollercoaster ride. Real rollercoaster while wearing VR goggles. I was enthralled with the quality and completely forgot I was on a rollercoaster as it climbed higher and higher. Next thing we've reached the top and it's time to hurtle downwards while I'm still looking around. For a good second I thought I was plummeting to my death.
I think that satisfies all three criteria.
