    Poor keeping from Pant there.

And again. Pant might be a decent batsman, but his keeping is substandard at this level.

    Australia well on top here.

Steve Smith will be chuffed - good platform for whenever he has to come in.

    Maybe BUT:

    • Conditions haven't helped. I haven't seen the whole day's play but there isn't as much assistance off the deck as Melbourne.
    • Yadav not being there is also a factor
    • The openers being openers helps. Not one guy with zero form and the other middle order batsmen who looks like he's on speed.

@KiwiMurph also: new guy bowler might have a wicket but is also getting spanked and relieving pressure

@NTA he looks to have a bit of the Matt Henry's about him - too many loose balls.

@KiwiMurph real circuit breaker for Australia - Pucovski cut him a couple of times to bring up 50 and Smith also drove him a bit.

Now Loose Bus Change is getting on board as well. Think the aggression factor has gone up a bit - wait out Bumrah and Ashwin and pick on the new guys.

Didn’t come on at a great time. Two set batsmen, not a lot on offer with the wicket.

He got Will with a very good ball though.

Poor captaincy from Rahane today. He left bowling Jadaja until far too late, while leaving Ashwin on half the day to bowl a ton of innocuous deliveries, which when they did turn, were generally too straight.

Good debut innings from the mini Honey Badger.

The Aussies really know how to heap pressure on young talent with the camera fixed on him during the rain delays and comments of "biggest interest since Ricky Ponting's debut"

@Hooroo it was the continual comments from the press about "we/he has waited so long for this" that shit me. He's 22, in basically his first year of serious cricket.

He's not waited long at all.

was it lehmann who posted something like 10,000 FC runs without a callup? Now that's waiting!

Tho there was an amusing quip Ponting mentioned about seeing him as a 12yo for the first time, loading up the bowling machine for him, and watching him cream a cover drive.

    Fully that!

I understand he has had Mental Illness issues in the past? To get through all that plus concussions etc and only be 22 and be under a bright spotlight and score 60-odd on debut is pretty impressive.
