Wow. Texans have hired David Culley.

A 65 year old first time head coach. He's never been an offensive coordinator but he is the passing game coordinator for Ravens (they have the last-ranked passing attack in the league). He was also WR coach for Chiefs one year when not one Chief WR had a touchdown. Has been in the NFL since 1994.

Cannot see Watson wanting to hang around.

Yeah, but he's white... So... Ok?

    Train. Wreck.

    And meanwhile

@canefan it's great for KC, but there's some goddamn eejits running NFL franchises these days.

How good is Andy Reid's coaching tree? He's awesome, and just keeps on going. Now I want a cheeseburger 🙂

Eric could do worse than ride the wave with Andy then take over, as long as Mahomes stays on top. Especially if the Chiefs are paying him well

I still think Watson staying is the most likely outcome. But definitely odds have dropped on a trade.

Yeah which makes the timing interesting. Its presumably Watson's camp trying to build pressure. He's also apparently not going to be fussy about teams - there's only a short list that he'd veto.

The Texans are apparently not returning calls. This is starting to feel a bit like Jamal Adams. The Texans will stick to their guns and hold Watson (he might have more leverage than the average player but the Texans are still in a stronger overall position), but if/when someone makes the right offer it'll happen fast.

If Adams was 2 firsts and a 3rd, I expect the Texans hold out for 4 or 5 firsts depending on what else is in the package and how high the first is this year. Jets and Dolphins (and in theory the Jags) might be able to get away with 3 since they have such a high first.

If the Texans get a haul like that this could end up being the a Herschel Walker moment for the them. Or we'll all be reminded of Jimmy Johnson's assessment that it wasn't the trade that was good value, it was getting the draft picks right.

@mariner4life Lions take on Goff's huge contract meanwhile Rams give up 2 x first round picks and a 3rd round pick.

@KiwiMurph interesting trade. Stafford I think is a very good QB stuck at a terrible team

That said, he hasn't made a bad team good, so has he had the lions as an excuse?

@mariner4life The Lions excuse is a fair one. He hasn't had a decent running game, coach or defence his entire career.

He certainly has less excuses now. Big year for Stafford

I would have been okay with having him come to SF. He's had some good years in a pretty dire organisation

Agreed. 49ers aren't aggressive enough. Now they are stuck with the worst QB in the division.

    Good move by the Rams.

Maybe Shanahan truly believes he can get a sweet tune out of Jimmy G? He can't put the team on his back for the win, and as good as SF's run game and defence are you can't go without a passing threat under centre

Texans will be stoked. If that's the price for Stafford then Watson is at least twice that.

Lions new GM is the Rams old head of college scouting, so must believe that Goff can be a genuine QB in this league. They have so much draft capital now they have the potential to go on a really good run.

Rams window is now tiny. A couple of years with Stafford before he goes into decline and the talent draught starts to bite.

@Cyclops Part of that price for Stafford was because Lions were willing to take on Goff's big contract. Without Goff the price would have been less.

It's a great move for the Lions - they are at the beginning of the rebuild so even if they don't rate Goff particularly highly they can afford him for the next two years and by doing so they got more picks - plus at worst he can be a bridge QB for the next guy they think is their long term QB.

Yeah I hadn't realised quite how much Goff's deal had guaranteed.

Definitely a win for the Lions. A qb at 7 is even possible and they can take their time to develop them behind Goff.

The Rams last first round pick was Goff in 2016 and they currently don't have another until 2024.
