    but I'm assuming this was supposed to be on the BOP board, not some meta discussion about how fucked up things still are

    ]

    Bay of Plenty Rugby Union announced today that four players; Cassius Misa, Benet Kumeroa, Kali Vaipulu and Kohan Herbert, who have come through the Bay of Plenty Rugby High Performance program, have signed with the union for the next two seasons.

    Herbert played for the Australian Secondary Schools in 2018 before joining the Bay. He was part of the Toa (Bay of Plenty Under 19’s) squad which created history for the union to win the 2018 Jock Hobbs National Under 19 Tournament. He then went on to play for NZ Under 20’s in 2019.

    Kumeroa and Misa played in 2019 Toa team, losing narrowly to a dominant Canterbury side. In 2020 they were both part of the New Zealand U20 camps but due to Covid-19 restrictions and the cancellation of the World Rugby Tournament, were unable to press their claims for a spot in final the New Zealand U20 team. Both are currently training with the Chiefs Under 20’s programme.

    Vaipulu was recruited in 2020 and after just one year has displayed great potential and has been given this opportunity. Vaipulu is also currently training with the Chiefs Under 20’s programme.

    Was there talk of Sean Wainui moving to BOP? Or was that a different player I'm thinking of.

    @higgins NZ under 20s fullback. Played very well at the NZ sevens event earlier this year. From Papamoa. May go OK in Scotland

    @stargazer Bang on with this one, Gibson is new coach. Thought Bourke/Rogers might have got a shot especially with the work of the academy really starting to flourish.

    Did none of the assistants want to step up, or weren't they given the opportunity?

    @bovidae Richard Watt is the lead asisstant so I'm presuming Marty & Mike applied but were shafted for Gibson otherwise they'd certainly be assistants. Really disappointing decision, Marty & Mike coached prem club, bop dev, academy & the 19s then asisstants for Steamers. Their first year coincided with Steamers playing a more open style & winning the title to. What's the point of a pathway if you're still gonna hire a more high-profile coach? Rogers harps on about coach development in the press release yet they have no relationships in the Bay unlike those two. Pretty disillusioned, it's not as if we're in a bad situation & needed a complete overhaul.

    @stargazer rapid rugby failed but obviously the relationship created has allowed this. Great opportunity as a warm up game

    With the preseason starting next month some of us are curious to know the answer to some questions :-

    Is Haereiti Hetet contracted to The Bay for this year ?
    Have Mewett and Geldenhuys retired ?
    Are Johnston, Hollinshead and Fuatai rejoining The Bay after the American season ?
    Does anyone know what's happened to Blake and Lalomilo ?
    Is Pohipi contracted to Canterbury for the NPC ?
    Are there any players carrying injuries at this stage ?
