Hopefully the team does better with Blackwell as captain than Wellington did with him leading the team. And surprised that Kirifi is not captain for the Chiefs game.

@Higgins Ben Strang is a hooker and Kyle Stewart a loosehead prop. Both from Manawatu.
Obviously, Manawatu ranks higher than Hawke's Bay, because otherwise they'd have picked Jason Long/Patrick Teddy and Kianu Kereru-Symes/Jacob Devery, although I'm still hoping Kianu will be named in one of the Blues' squads.
@Stargazer I can't recall having seen them play for the poorly performed 'Poo so that's how much of an impression they must have made on me! Standard form for Hurricanes selectors is to troll through absolutely anyone that might be even remotely available that it registered to a club affiliated to the WRFU before they reluctantly consider anyone else.

@Winger Kirifi may not be a starter given that openside is Ardie's specialist spot. Still they way they powers that be behind the Hurricanes operate nothing would surprise me.

But Savea is the current AB starting 8. So would expect to see him focus at 8 with maybe some game time at 7. But my comment was for this one game only. Julian was preferred when hes unlikely to get much game time so why not give Kirifi a go.

Referees will be happy. Ardie is less likely to burst an eardrum like the last few Hurricane captains.

Missed the reserve HB prop J Hintz making the bench for both games, but then again he is originally from Wellington so I suppose that counts in his favour!

You have to feel for McClutchie in this article bringing in Orbyn as injury cover when he’s not a 10, the management seem like they don’t have a clue if we can all see it how can they not.

We can all see it. This applies to Blackwell (a Wellington player) starting week after week. But isn't McClutchie a bit on the fragile or small side for super rugby. He just looks like a NPC level player that would struggle to step up week after week if required. And that what a team needs.
