@mariner4life True - but, so will our guys be - and I think our batsmen are better equipped to play it.

What we don't want is something spin friendly where we are matching Satnav against Ashwin and Jadeja.

Yeah agree completely. In the past I would say it would level the playing field a bit and give our bowlers a chance to get their superior batting lineup out, but that's not the case anymore. It's just about the teams strengths and they have a very clear advantage in spin that we don't want them to be able to exploit.

We want the kind of similar conditions to home that England can provide. Greener wickets with significant assistance to quick and swing bowling

@MN5 What's Lords like these days?

Back in the '80s, Middlesex used to field Emburey and Edmonds on their home ground.

A bit earlier they had Fred Titmus - and a bit later Phil Tuffnell.

Some of those guys don’t make Santner look too bad actually

England completely fucked now. four in hand needing 372 and Root is still at the crease on 29 and due a failure.

Ashwin only two wickets away from a 10fer, holy shit what a cricketer that guy is, I really hope he gets there. Incredible that India have him and Jadeja playing in the same era ( when we have to settle for Mitch Santner ).

Indeed, what a turnaround. They rely more on Root than we do on KW that's for darn sure. The main worrying thing for us playing them in the final is the home advantage cos we're better than them overall.

It took the loss of six wickets, but England eventually surpassed Ashwin's score.

I think I want us to play India. I know they are very talented, but no home court advantage and conditions to suit us sounds like we would have a strong chance

    What I wrote previously.

Just bumping this through now that the thread has been overtaken with match comments
A couple of those scenarios are gone now. Still possible for all three countries to qualify

Aussie are still in with a reasonable chance. The coin toss is going to be critical in the remaining tests.

England - must win the next 2, only option
India - must win at least one and not lose anymore
    Australia - anything else!!

@No-Quarter If each match is a 50-50 proposition then Oz still have three cards, India two and England one.

Whatever happens next match Oz will still have a card in play, but one of England or India will be gone.

3-1 England seems highly unlikely to me.

I'm just desparately hoping we play England, it comes down to the last ball, needing 3 to win, Boulty gets hit on the pad, it runs away to the boundary, England appeal for LBW umpire says "not out", England have no more reviews, and ball tracking shows it plumb ... and we win on boundaries...

I mean we'd win by 1 wicket with no tiebreak needed, but yeah I'd take that.

I think that’s pretty fair. England basically rely on one batsman, an overrated all rounder and two ancient fast bowlers. I can’t see them recovering from this latest loss

no way 50/50 in India. The last pitch was turning square on Day 1. I think it's going to be 3-1 or 2-2; can't see a draw.

I'd say India are red hot favourites, and then Australia. Can't see England winning two on the bounce - but who knows in these crazy times!

Yeah - I think England's card has been burned and put in an urn - but, you never know.

You'd think India are red hot favorites, but the cricketing gods like to fuck with us NZers.

You just know the poms are going to win both tosses, flounder a win somewhere and let the fucking Australians in the back door!
