It is currently about half tide (incoming) so that will help, havent heard anything yet about water draining out further than usual.

Is Raoul Island unmanned because of COVID? Be a very uncomfortable 12 hours for any Met Service / DOC staff otherwise

DOC confirmed they don't have anyone there right now

Is quite eery, just the unknown.

Surge meant to get here about now, no sign of significant movement of water in the basin.

King tides at the moment too - won’t help.

I tried to get out of town to go home but the roads were absolute chaos, gridlocked everywhere.

Currently at OBM footy club watching for the water in the Hatea river to be sucked out..... then we know we’ll be in for some action.

    Crazy times

@gunner first surge meant to be here now, I been watching the water in the basin and havent noticed a hig change (although my eyesight aint great)

Although if a king tide, woulda been extra low too usually? High tide about 2pm

@taniwharugby heard reports that a lot of water had been sucked out of Parua Bay... how accurate that is I couldn’t say.

@jc yeah things moving much slower than anticipated...nothing going on in Basin at present.

Ladies at work reckoned level rose pretty quickly, but I've not seen a change for 30 mins, deadly still and yacht masts not moving at all, which you'd expect with fast movign water.

@r-l nah we are probably >40m above sea level at the top of a Harbour that the water needs to travel west then turn north to come up to us, plus up on 2nd floor of a brand new building.

Expecting some low level water inundation (hoping it doesnt happen)

I felt the 7.1 East Cape one at 2:30 this morning, in Wellington. Just happened to be awake. Heard the rumbling coming for ages before it hit.

My daughter has a black eye this morning. Had a small picture in frame on her bed head, fell off and sconed her in the night. Let that be a lesson to her ...

@jc one of the ladies at work spent nearly an hour trying to convince her dad to leave his house at sea level in Waikaraka!

@rapido Yep, it woke me up! Weird, long, rolling earthquake. Didn't feel the later ones.

Stay safe everyone! Just heard there's a warning for Marlborough, too?
