Chaos Walking:
Doug Liman is usually a pretty solid director. Swingers, Go, The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow etc. Even his not as good films are usually very watchable - Jumper, Mr and Mrs Smith, American Made.
But by god he bungles this kind of high concept story, which probably had little chance of working as a movie.
It's set on a planet where mens thoughts can be heard, and are heard constantly. It was almost impossible to follow at the start when characters were both talking and thinking.
As the movie went on they appear to have made the wise decision to only have the men think occasionally.
The story is just average too. Apparently based on book trilogy, but we're not going to see the next two that's for sure.
Stars Rey, Spider-man, and Mads Mikkelson.
Yeah - I've read the books - I really don't see how you'd even start thinking "let's make this into a movie".
Well... other than the classic Hollywood thought-chain of "Hunger Games did well, Divergent and Maze-Runner at least broke even, so let's go out and buy the rights to every single fucking Young-Adult book in the world"
Fuck you, Hollywood. And Fuck You, condescending Young-Adult novels. "Ohh, I'm a teenager, but I feel different to everybody else, so there must be something wrong with me; oh no - I'm actually special; oh, but it's so hard being special; oh, romance is difficult; oh - but everything will turn out alright if I just accept myself for who I am". Fuck you. -

Love teen angsty/coming of age movies ! Remind me of my youth and I get all sentimental. Maybe it's a gal thing.

I came last in the pub-quiz last night. I was doing it solo, whereas the other teams had at least 4, up to 10 people per team - and I was late, so missed the first round - but still, it hurts, you know? I didn't show it, but deep-down, you know... it stung.
Anyways - Young-Adult books - I remember when I actually WAS a young-adult, thinking "you condescending pricks" while reading attempts to relate with, or get inside, the heads of a teenager. But NOW - when for some reason I read one of these things - 'Arry Potter, or 'Unger Games, or whatever - I'm sure they're much, much worse.... and quite possibly actively creating this generation of little entitled pricks. Hunger Games - god that was terrible, constant re-inforcement of "positive messages" for a generation of kids now thinking that cock-teasing two guys in parallel is all good - don't worry about it, it's all about YOU and YOUR desires anyway - and so what if that's a see-saw... just take what you want, when you want, and everything else will fit around you.

@kruse I recall being a teenager as an awesome time in my life!
Sports, girls, mates, sports, girls, school, mates, beer, sports, girls!
Toxic masculinity. I never quite knew what that meant but I do now. It’s when TR got all the bloody girls.
-
@catogrande didnt say I got all the girls, more the above is what occupied my time!
Beer later in the piece as 20 was the drinking age when I was in my teens.
-
No mate, you are now tarred as the studmuffin

@dogmeat well as a shy fresh faced fella, it wasnt until I met a dude who would become one of my best mates when we were 16, who had 5 o'clock shadow at 11am was I able to buy alcohol.
My best mate through college was the same. Not only that but he did milking and had cash and a car, awesome bro!

All about confidence. At 17 I was as baby faced as they come but when the Police visited the Poenamo in Takapuna and started arresting under agers I walked up to the sergeant and asked him if I would get booked if I took all my clothes off and jumped in the house bar pool. He said not unless we get a complaint. So I did. It was fucking July!!!After I got dressed I wandered into the house bar where a wedding was underway. I was asked if I was a guest in the hotel. I replied by pointing to my wet hair and asking where else could I get a shower at that time of night? I spent the next two hours drinking free beer

Coming 2 America
A pretty good sequel.

A rewatch of Taken 1, 2 and 3.
While the original is definitely the best of the three movies I also enjoy watching the other two as well. You either like the French-style camera shots/editing or not, and ignore some of the plot holes.
Forest Whitaker was a good addition to 3 but whoever cast Dougray Scott to replace the unavailable Xander Berkeley needs a slap. At least get an actor who looks older, is balding and grey-haired.
