So apparently the Aussies are a bit annoyed that they missed out because they were docked points for a slow over rate.

Should have bowled more overs then. Maybe they got an advantage from it?

If the underarm was in the rules, maybe time to see if slow over rate punishments were also in the rules. Perhaps they crossed a line they often insist they never do?

This is why it is even funnier:

Langer claimed that the team had no idea they were behind the required over rate by enough of a margin to incur a penalty until after the Test concluded, despite regular updates always being provided by match officials. "Our manager Gavin Dovey had gone home ... for Christmas with his family in England, and it wasn't until after the game that we realised our over rate was down," Langer told SEN Radio. "That's really slack on our behalf, but I remember we were in the team room afterwards and I spoke to Painey and Dene Hills, our analyst, about it. I was a bit grumpy about it and I thought 'imagine if this cost us the World Test Championship'.

it's classic - but I bet he didn't think that. Otherwise it would have come out by now 🙂

Also, the Aussies missing out because of slow over rates is very humorous. I think subconsciously they figured they'd smoke India at the Gabba, win the series, and it wouldn't matter.

SA would have had a good crack at them I reckon, in home conditions. Especially if crowds with sandpaper were in there...

CA tried to move that series to Aust. The Bangles would have provided easy points.

I don't think the Aussies have played the Bangles south of Darwin have they?

So, when do you think this test championship started?

I was surprised to read it only kicked off in August 2019.

So, 2 years to play all the series, and then find the 2 best, ain't long. Throw in a travel restricting pandemic and there's a fair bit of luck for whoever makes the final.

However, is it 1v2 in the test rankings?

@crucial is that the same as ICC test rankings? I'm not sure, thought perhaps there were different calculations.

@siam that graphic above is the current test rankings.

You are right the World Test Championship Points table is slightly different (though the top 5 remain in the same order).
