@Higgins said in Hawkes Bay Schoolboy Rugby:

@delicatessen You should drop by more often as this site is a bit of an institution and somewhat addictive with many traditions etc going back a number if years that have to be kept up! Come ITM Cup time we also have a HB Tipping Team that takes on allcomers in a teams competition run on this board. We usually do really well but tripped up badly and only come home in a miserable 6th place last season. Maybe you would like to make yourself available for selection come NPC time as we might need some new talent next season!

Thanks mate, will have a poke round.
Will it hurt the team if I miss a round or two of picks?

@delicatessen No a team consists of six players and only the top five scores each week count toward the team's total. Even missing a round in the individual competition which runs in conjunction with the teams event is not the death knell for you as you still get awarded five points lower than the minimum score so all is not lost. Having said that sometime the lowest score for the week can be miserably low!

Hastings Boys and Hastings Girls are competing at the Condor Sevens U15 tournament, today and tomorrow. Unfortunately, these games aren't streamed.

    Here are the first results:

    Hastings Boys U15 beat

    • Feilding HS: 31 - 12
    • Massey HS: 40 - 7

    Hastings Girls U15 lost to:

    • St Peter's Cambridge: 7 - 21

    Remainder of today's results:

    Hastings Boys:

    • 24 - 15 win v Pukekohe HS
    • 0 -24 loss v St Peter's College

St Peter's still has to play a pool game tomorrow, but they're likely to finish first in their pool, and Hastings Boys second. The top teams of each pool and the two best runners-up go through to the Cup/Consolation Cup finals, and there's a good chance that Hastings Boys will be one of those two best runners-up. That means that they'll play against St Peter's College (again) or Sacred Heart Coll in the quarter finals.

    Hastings Girls:

    • 5 - 20 loss v Feilding HS
    • 21 - 12 win v Gisborne GHS

Last poolgame v Auckland GHS to be played tomorrow. AGHS has smashed all their other opponents, so the same is likely to happen to Hastings Girls,

There are no tables available online for the U15 girls tournament, so I don't know where Hastings Girls will up in the finals, but it will be somewhere near the bottom end.

Hastings Boys played the Plate QF against St Paul's College and lost 0 - 22.
Then they lost the Consolation Plate SF against St Kent's, 10 - 17.

Hastings Girls lost - as expected - their final pool game against Auckland Girls: 0 - 27.

Hastings Girls won the Consolation Bowl SF against Epson Girls' 22 - 19.
They went on to lose the Consolation Bowl Final against Avondale College: 18 - 36.

@mofitzy_ No idea. Home grown, but obviously I don't know where his family is from. He participated in the Ignite7s, last year, so I thought that was his ambition (sevens). Promising player, elusive, although a bit headless chook Dmac style (but a bit taller). Not a player you want to lose to another province, even less to another country.

Obviously, you always have to wait and see how a player develops after school, but he could become a good fullback(/wing).

    Last Saturday, 27 March 2021:

Hastings Boys played St John's College in a "scenario" game. Haven't been able to find any further info.
Lindisfarne Coll suffered a narrow loss against Palmerston North Boys: 25 - 28.

A lot of Napier Boys' rugby players were still playing tournaments in other sports, on Saturday. I understand that was the last weekend of tournaments, and the focus of these players will now be on rugby.

St John's were the first to publish their 1st XV squad for 2021:

A few results from the past week.

    Thursday, 1 April 2021:

    • Hastings Boys 1st XV lost to Kelston Boys: 12 - 28 (HT: 7 - 14).

From what I've heard, the loosies were all good and also positive comments about the frontrow. The halves, however, were way too passive. The try scorers for Hastings Boys were Kaihau Pasikala and Cooper Flanders.

From the photos I've seen on instagram, I've been able to figure out some of the names of players in Thursday's squad:

    Aone Lolofie - (LH) prop
    Avian Rihia? - prop
    Vikta Tavita - hooker
    Kaihau Pasikala - blindside flanker
James Pese - openside flanker (former Rongotai College)
    Cooper Flanders - no. 8
    Hoera Stephenson - 1st five-eighth
    Phillip King-Panapa - halfback
    Pene To'o - 2nd five-eighth/centre (former Upper Hutt College)
    Mefi Tupou - wing/centre

    Nonu Hakalia?

The 2nd XVs also played, but I haven't seen the result.

    • Lindisfarne 1st XV beat Gisborne BHS: 43 - 3

I can't remember where I saw this score (not on any of the offical FB pages), but if correct, then they're certainly backing up their previous good result against Palmy Boys. Same as for Hastings, the 2nds played too, but I haven't been able to find out the final score.

    Saturday, 3 April 2021:

    • St John's Coll (Hastings) 46 - 12 Napier OB Marist Colts

This game was yesterday, but any squad list is good. Still need to compare this with last year's lists, but already noticing some names missing, like hooker Will Robinson, first-fives/fullbacks Jayden Stok and Carlos Kemp. Prop Iafeta Ma'a and outside back Ethyn Martin are both in Australia.

It will be interesting to see how this new squad will go this year.

Very happy to see that Afa Moleli is still there. I had heard rumours that there was interest out of Auckland for him.
The Leutele-Malasia brothers are stil there, too. Bethel looked like a promising player (I remember him playing on the wing in 2020); I think they're nephews of Neria Fomai.

Results preseason games Sun 11 April 2021:

    Napier Boys 1st XV 26 - 7 Wellington Coll 1st XV
    Napier Boys 2nd XV 19 - 12 Wellington 2nd XV
    Napier Boys 3rd XV 58 - 10 Te Aute 1st XV

    Lindisfarne Coll 1st XV 43 - 5 Manukura 1st XV

    Hastings Boys 1st XV 38 - 7 Feilding HS 1st XV
    Hastings Boys 2nd XV 41 - 7 Wairarapa College 1st XV

    St John's College, Hastings 26 - 45 Scots College

As @Bovidae said in the general school rugby thread, the Hastings Boys 1st XV game ended early because one of their players suffered a broken leg. I'm still trying to figure out who the players is. Possibly it's halfback Jehmial Ross, but not sure at all.

    Result:

    St Kevins College 21 - 26 St John's, Hastings

Not sure how much all these wins mean as the teams in CNI will be stronger, but at least they'll go into the competition with a bit of confidence.
