I'm surprised that Skipwith-Garland is playing on the wing when Wrampling could be done that as well, and is more comfortable playing there.

Is Kapeli aiming for a kit from every Super rugby team?

It seems a shame that they don’t try to monetize these games with a Super Rugby D1 and D2. We’d get 2 more games per week and we’d be able to see how the squaddies and youngsters are coming along. It might also keep those who are playing consistently in the D2 team from feeling too hard done by.

@gt12 In previous years there has been more games between the Dev teams. The Chiefs and Blues would often play twice. Playing them as curtain-raisers would be a good start. I'm going to go early to watch this game.

@mikey07 Is Nathan Harris coming back from injury or is his naming as only a reserve for a reserve team a massive fall in grace?

@higgins The former. I don't remember him playing for BOP last weekend either. I was expecting him to start this game.

Thinking ahead for the rest of SRA and the loss of Cane, the Chiefs have a couple of options.

Option A is that L Boshier is fit and available soon so he can slot into the 7 jersey, with Brown and Jacobson.
Option B is that Jacobson moves to openside like he did when Cane went off against the Blues. That means Sowakula probably starts at no.8.
Option C is that Karpik (if fit) plays at no.7 if Boshier is still unavailable. I'm not going to repeat myself about what I think about Karpik at SR level.

My preference is definitely option A. Option B would be a band-aid fix but McMillan has stated he likes Jacobson at no.8 so he gets his hands on the ball.

As to a squad replacement for Cane, based on who played for the Development team, that should be Kapeli or Motuga.

I'm guessing Boshier isn't far off? Good thing we have the bye, though Jacobson or even Karpik aren't bad stop gaps. Think Jacobson played 7 in age grade?

Luke ended up playing 7 for Waikato last year when Mitch got his season-ending injury. He can play there and wins turnovers, but he is a much better 6 or 8.

Mainly used off the bench for BOP last year, ironically behind Karpik. Both Kapeli and Motuga were in the Moana Pasifika team that played the Maori. I thought Kapeli had a useful game in the Dev match and is similar to Cane in size.

Finau is a bit of a gem tbh, hard worker, throws himself around and brings the mongrel. Prefer him at 6 as opposed to lock.

That would be my preferred trio too. Even though McMillan is a Finau fan I think he might still go for the experience of Brown at 6. You would expect both to be in the 23 going forward.

@bovidae Motuga wouldn't be a bad guy to bring in. He was one of the best backrowers in the NPC last year. I think he led the comp in tackles and was near the top for turnovers too. He'd also be one of the best running opensides going around. I think his style of play really suits Super Rugby.
