The same Leger who hasn't even been playing 1st 5 for CM. He has been asked to fill a role because the alternatives who play in that position at NPC level have either left NZ or been ignored.

Yeah odd comment when the guy is listed in the squad as a midfielder.
He filled in during the pre-season and was adequate so they somehow believed that would be good enough in the comp when injuries hit. -

Leger has played at 1st 5 for the Chiefs before.
Yeah, we discussed this ages ago. He was a stopgap there too.
As I say, I can see the logic in using him but it was never going to be an optimum long term solution so they should have blooded others sooner. -

Yes, a game I was at - the opener vs the Highlanders in 2019. As @Crucial says, it was a stop-gap as DMac, Falcon, Debreczeni and MMac were all unavailable due to injury. He played OK in that game but is a primarily a 2nd 5 since leaving school.

@bovidae agree I reckon he'll be given the rains this weekend they have no choice but to throw him in the deep end I think he'd do well has the goods

@crucial the management of the whole campaign has been piss poor tbh. Love trained with the Canes last year aswell so evidently they should have given him time in the saddle at training back then anyway, especially knowing he's going to be a crucial playmaker for us moving forward.
It doesn't really matter anyway, Holland is still going to select guys like James Blackwell so I doubt we will get enough ball to see Ruben Love shine, especially against the Crusaders.

️ princeep ardie and Flanders would be our best against saders@berhamporeninja yeah I don’t mind Prinsep atm, it’s just having both him and Blackwell in the same pack really reduces our size and impact against bigger teams. Prinsep, Savea and Flanders look the best fit to me with Scrafton and IWL at lock. I’m getting a little sick of Kirifi and him being carded every second game. Hopefully Aumua makes a return from the pine aswell.

Don't agree with this (re JGB). He has the odd bad game but overall has performed well for the Canes. 3 or 4 levels better than Leger

@winger yeah but he’s average when you compare him to the better 10s in the country. He would be a much better player if he had a little more gas. Seems to know what he wants to do but just can’t execute due to his size.

Was never going to happen over golden boy JGB but would’ve rather Smith he offers more of the flair we need.

@mikey07 probably needs a break to be fair. Yes he’s made a lot of tackles but he’s done a lot of dumb stuff in between during crucial moments of games.
Both matches against the Blues the Kirifi cards tipped the momentum towards the Blues, I’m not saying he cost us those games but he needs to be better at holding back some of that energy. Hopefully that comes with more experience.

Kirifi makes the loose-forward trio a bit unbalanced with Savea there too, as they are both pretty small players for loose forwards (both under 100kg). Flanders to start at 8, Savea back to 7 and Kirifi on the bench.

@kiwi_expat that's how it was at the start of the season until they realised Kirifi was an even hotter head coming off the bench. Flanders just needs to start though, he's a too good a player to keep on the pine.

Your point still stands, but both Kirifi and Savea are listed as being over 100kg on the Canes website

He was terrible in the first game this year (vs Auckland) coming on as a replacement. Its an area Kirifi needs to work on as its not just a one-off issue. And now his other qualities don't make up for his hot-head momements.
I would give him a week off and try one of the other replacement 7 options. Esp if Fifita is back. And hope hes calmed down for the final 2 games.
