They will report on "how the world reacts" to your outrage for sure. After all how the world reacts is all that really counts anymore.

.....and any former player who dares mention the wonderful traditions of cricket will be vilified and abused for being an out of touch relic and a dinosaur.

Kids love dinosaurs. I thought that was the target market (kids, not dinosaurs although there may be just as many of them actually watching)?

I suppose rugby has 7s, 10s, and 15s. Could throw in the 13s, sort of as well.

However this is cricket, and this is definitely not cricket (as the saying goes chaps).

T20 already exists. Kids fucking love it.

T20 already exists. Most mums don't. Changing a couple of things here and there to make it "easier" won't change that.

Sometimes i think these things come about because inflated administrative departments need to justify their jobs.

Also the constant chasing of the "growth" unicorn has fucked so many sports.

@mariner4life That's exactly the point isn't it - we already have it. Reducing it by another 20 balls and changing some words isn't going to make it any better. I think that I have the maths correct there for those that can't cope with multiples of 6.

It's bloody stupid. I'm going to join a marketing dept, one full of people that don't watch sport like this lot obviously don't, and suggest that cricket should be played as 6 aside...sorry that will have to be 10.

To be honest it’s the “when you’re out you’re out” that I’m worried about ( currently they bat partnerships and lose runs each time they get dismissed ). His first Golden duck will be a sad time.

It'll be a few years if he's playing in NZ. They have done a great job of easing people in - next year will be something like a 9 ball grace period (and retire after 18 deliveries), and then a 6 ball (retire at 21 balls). Ensures kids actually get a game at the weekend -- a decent bat and bowl each week. Fair play to NZC (and I think Martin Snedden)

    what? fucking snowflake children

The quicker they learn what an absolute fluffybunny of a game cricket is, the better for their mortal soul. It doesn't matter what level you play, or what your form is like, or how much time you spent in the nets, some days you are going to turn up, bowl 10 overs 0-88, and get a 3rd ball duck, and drop a catch. And your dad won't even be there to watch.

Cricket hates you, and you need to learn that as quickly as possible.

Auckland cricket grades that my son has been playing in.

U12 was 9 ball grace, U13 was 6 (with LBW). Suggest you just check with your local organisation/club. Info for Auckland here (depends on the comp, of course)

Hmmmmm interesting. As I understand it it’s basically full adult rules as of October/November. In the last few games myself and the co coaches really focussed on getting them playing forward defensive strokes in readiness for next season which can’t be a bad thing.

It’s pretty tenuous to assume I ever played one of these in my playing days, but then again we live in a world where Luke Ronchi became a Black Caps batting coach so anything is possible.

What I don't get in all this is the ECB's obsession with chasing a potential new audience for Cricket ahead of the millions of fans who know and love the game.

I’m no expert but I’d say over a billion Indians contribute a fair bit to a game that ain’t broke and doesn’t need fixing.

How many of that ‘billion’ have started watching cricket because of the emergence of IPL. I’d hazard a guess at the odd hundred million or so...

Difficult to know, but I worked with loads of Indian cabin crew (many hundreds if not thousands), mostly female, pre IPL. They all knew their cricket, had a complete disdain for the Craps (and they were crap then, even though we beat India some of the time.) They were just as knowledgeable about tests as ODIs and were just as willing to enter a debate about players as we are on here. Indians will fill cricket grounds and watch it on TB no matter what. It's not like they have too many other internationally competitive teams, or sports people for that matter.

Yeah based on all of that India should be more dominant than they are.

A shortage of big fast bowlers to go with their beguiling spinners and little master batsmen has obviously been a major weakness over the years.

@mn5 Agreed. Decent quicks has always been a problem for them but it must be difficult to encourage kids to learn the trade. Even if the pitches were a bit different to get some seam movement, they often don't have the overhead conditions to encourage swing.

    And this:

crippling poverty for the vast majority, and a repressive class system means they aren't that advantaged really

Sheer weight of numbers won't overcome that from a playing perspective.

They still watch and understand the game though as a populace.

Definitely not a problem for neighbours Pakistan though. They’ve produced some of the best fast bowlers ever.

Also poverty doesn’t stop Brazil from dominating football as one example.

I was going to comment on this yesterday but I was actually speechless / typeless (new word).

They are trying to decimalise cricket and yet they still use statute miles to drive. A measurement based on some Roman blokes "pace", which was in turn based on his foot. They could have used nautical miles which actually make sense, if they couldn't understand the metric system.

Why does everything have to based on the lowest common denominator (I'm being polite I should just say fucking morons)? Should we stop playing chess because it is too hard and make everyone play checkers?

I suspect most will exercise their right to not watch this shit.

How many forms of "cricket", this isn't, really, do we need? What next a one ball game, for those that can only count that high?

I seem to have found my voice about this. Extremely GOM. I'll stop now before I rupture something.

    Length of a cricket pitch: 22 yards = 1 chain = 20.1168m

    Change it to 20m ... It's only 4.5984252" different ...

And using your analogy above they will end up in a similar stupid position of measuring fuel consumption in miles per gallon when you buy the fuel in litres.

Has caused more than one aircraft accident / incident. I won't digress on that.

I am interested in why "out", is so much easier to understand than wicket. Just the single syllable I guess. He's "out", "out" where? Lunch? Having a snooze? Concussed?

    Did chuckle at this:
    "a dumbing down and “Americanisation”

Has some implication that one is related to the other.

The other team took a “wicket” and he got “out”.

Both terms are equally used already !

Yeah. The player was run out, given out, adjudged out (although apparently LBW is too hard to understand)

That applies to many cricket fans

No, no, no. They decided this was the length of the pitch based on some random Roman with a size eleven and a half shoe. It has always been so, and must remain so. Danny Morrison will just have to call it the 20.1168metres in future.
