TJP was frustrating because he's obviously a supremely talented athlete, but just didn't have the nous to perform consistently at the highest level. Poor decisions and brain farts became a bit synonymous with his play which you just can't afford in a tight test. On the flipside he did break some tests open by upping the tempo with his running game, including support play, but you just couldn't rely on him to make the right decision all the time.
All that said he's been a great player to have in the mix to keep A Smith honest, and he has been superb in Super rugby in combination with Beauden. Seems like a top bloke off the field as well.
I think he'd go great in League. Much simpler game, chuck him at Hooker where his running and support play will really come to the fore with the extra space you get, and his passing is good enough in that game.
Yeah I was one of his staunchest supporters but had to admit he was every colour of shit last year. It’s so frustrating because he has the size and skillset to be a worldclass 9 but he’s just braindead. It’s even more frustrating when seeing him absolutely carve it up for the Canes over the years.
I think he would actually do very well at league but don’t think this is a serious option in the slightest. It’s just a negotiating tactic and I hope they tell him to go fück himself.

Obviously the transition would take time and there’s no way a league club with a salary cap will pay Japan level money for him. It’s all BS.

we are talking rooster sombrero here, somehow they fit more in that cap than most.. but honestly cant see him going though and although walking into a top team, as per what M4L said, he will be found out just waving arms in the middle by a coathanger or two pretty quickly.

I reckon he’d make an excellent hooker given his high work rate and tackle ability. He could even be very good at 5/8 with his boot and not be a liability on defence like a number of 5/8s in the NRL.
As for his AB career, when he hasn’t tried to be the man, he has played well and provided good impact off the bench. But when he tries to take over the game he has made some very costly mistakes.

It should be at least in the top 3 skill considerations. Not as important as hair style or boot colour though.

It isn't as if there is a flood of quality, uninjured halfbacks running around at the moment.
I think he is fine at the right moment off the bench if well-coached and well-drilled. Oh, Foster, you say?
