I'll be sore enough tomorrow but it was a good day.

Turns out I was a little stiff but no great issues with injury. Win!

I’m in awe of anyone who gets on the field at that age. As someone who essentially pussied out of rugby in my mid-20s, the idea of subjecting my body to that absolutely awesome but insanely brutal sport is unthinkable. Weirdly enough though I have this recurring dream of taking the field but suddenly realising I don’t have a mouth guard. Not sure what tf Freud would make of that!

@rancid-schnitzel while watching a game on Saturday TR Jnr is like you should play for the B's next year dad!

I wonder if he heard me speak to an old mate who managed to play a Senior game with his son a few weeks back and how much of a buzz that would be and thought we might get there...unlikely as if I did ever go back, I doubt I'd be able to walk by time he was playing senior footy! haha

Most guys I talk to who go back after a length lay off say it is the constant impacts that take thier toll.

It would be seriously cool to play with your kid. The closest I came to that was training my son’s team. It was a buzz just running as “opposition” at training. The idea of playing is awesome but I’m a realist. I’d also have to stack on some weight. The Islanders would snap me in half!

@rancid-schnitzel yeah as most here know, I coached his team for 8 years, but he is on a break form rugby although he has started talking about asking the new coach about calling him up if they have any injuries.

But he'd be a good 3 years away from senior rugby, meaning I'd be dangerously close to 50 by then...while I'm in decent shape, there are some huge feckers that play the game these days!

i've resigned myself to the fact that i'll never play another game. And that includes golden oldies. My neck and my back are fucked, and even in the old boys stuff there are always a couple of heroes who want to go too hard. Sad, but i had my time. 14 years straight of senior rugby was enough.

@mariner4life yeah I have played a handful of GO games, great fun!

Body feels it next day, but love it too much to miss out!

TR Jnr did use one of my lines on him to me about it too...I have said to him I didnt want him to look back in a few years and regret not doing something...I'm already at the point of regretting I didnt play a few seasons 4 or 5 years back. Oh well...

I reckon I'd enjoy the contact again, it's the "sprinting" that would ruin me. Anything above 70% max speed would put me at risk of snapping both calves and at least 1 hammy

i think i mentioned i had thoughts of going back and playing reserve grade last year, but COVID, and then i proper put my back out trying to chuck a kid in a pool, and i realised that my time had very much passed.

And like Rancid, i would have to put too much weight on even to play that level. Be easy to lift in a lineout though...

I'm off to see a specialist (Greg Macleod) this week to address my knee. My entire intent is to get to France and then I'll hang up the boots.

Yeah I'm gonna play again, once we don't have to faff around with lockdown shit. Will time my run better too so it's not just endless preseason, but the taste last year was good.

I remember 15 years ago playing prems alongside a 42yo Yogi Rogers, fittest fucker in the club too.

I've been playing the odd game for the vets team since I got here, they don't actually play in a vets league so that the rugby is decent. Best forward pack I've played behind, most of them are probably approaching or over 60 now.

    Not a problem.

The Islanders would snap me in half!

Best part of playing prop in lower grades - most of the Islander guys are only picked there because they're also a bit overweight, and generally they don't know what they're doing 😉 The pommy bloke opposite me on the weekend was half a foot shorter and decent, but at one point we drove over them and one of their second rowers did his ankle.

    Another update

Day one after surgery, all seems to have gone well....sharing a room with an old mate that deaf as a wall and likes watching movies at midnight and saying “what” whenever someone asks them something

The grander side of things has been pretty cool though, getting back involved with a club, 2nds are 4-0 and I spend most weeks with a sore throat from yelling in Saturday’s, shit rugby can be fun
