Back on point after I was rudely and unnecessary slandered as being Toad's bumboy.
 
IIRC you yourself had a rant about how shit womens cricket is. Now female leads in SW aren't shit. Some are great. But the males are just better. Rey isn't a farking patch on Luke or Han or Obi or Anniken/Vader or Yoda or even Lando. Where are they now? Han is dead, Luke is a fat shit, Obi and Yoda are ghosts, Anniken/Vader was fried and Lando appears to have gone awol. Poe and Finn are cool, but are just sidekicks and the less said about Emo Renn the better.
 
So yeah, considering the vast majority of fans are men or boys, is it really that strange or misogynistic to want an awesome male lead in at least one of these new films?

I think him and Vader were equals, not sure if he was entirely his "boss" as such. When he orders him to release the officer from the force choke it seemed to be done with the due respect of a peer. Vader coulda made mince meat of him in a second but there's obviously the mutual respect thing happening there. Him and Christopher Lee were best mates in real life, if the prequels/sequels were switched I think a younger Dooku would have been an absolutely sensational bad guy, he is still my favourite Bond lead villain too.
 
Yeah Sir Alec seemed to despise Star Wars, kinda funny reading all the shit he said about it, didn't stop him returning for both sequels though !
 
In terms of where it sits in the Star Wars "Canon" I think it's 3.9 as I said earlier, ie perhaps a year or two before "A New Hope" which is set 20 years after Revenge of the Sith. ) People with greater Nerd powers than me may correct me but I'm pretty certain the only confirmed character I saw was Mon Mothma.......
 
Another thing, Changing the "canon" is fine for Bond, Hannibal ( Tv series ), Batman, Sherlock Holmes and whatever. I hope to fucken god no one ever does this with Star Wars.

Tarkin must have had some serious power. Just the way he spoke to Vader seemed unthinkable in later films. Apparently there is a novel providing his back story. Not sure if its cannon or not. I think Dooku was a character who was seriously underdeveloped. IMHO Episode 1 should have farked off all that trade bullshit and started with a separatist movement led by Dooku.
 
Sir Alec pisses me off. I absolutely love him as an actor, but he's such a hypocrite. He loved the money and freedom SW gave him, but had no problem slagging off the very people who made him all that money.

So this one, 'Rogue One ' is set before Episode IV (aka the original Star Wars)

no, it's not at all, and that's not what i said. What i said was, they've gone with a chick, and as long as it's a cool character, it won't matter to me. You can want what ever you want, i wasn't projecting on to you at all. My comment around you and Baron was mostly tongue in cheek, but i did know you would seize on it as some sort of SJW crusade, when really it's nothing of the sort. 
 
 
 
As an aside, i love Star Wars as much as anyone. A lot of us here seem to be in a similar age bracket, so it's pretty much been part of our whole lives. But some of the shit i have read over the past few years has shown me we don't half over-value those 3 movies. Rey and Finn are sidekicks, but Yoda and Lando are not? In one movie the newbies probably had as much screen time as Yoda and Lando put together from the originals (I'm trying very hard to forget Yoda in the prequels). Yes we love those original characters (Han is my favourite character ever, and i damn near cried when he appeared in TFA), but they had to be replaced, and the new guys did pretty well i thought. I certainly cared about them.
 
Again, just my opinion, don't get uppity. It's a fucking movie for god's sake.

Re Tarkin, yes the novel 'Tarkin' was written as part of the new canon, not an older novel which has all been cast aside in the Disney reboot.
 
If you are nerdy enough these new novels and the 'Star Wars Rebels' animated show apparently drop lots of little breadcrumbs that will tie in with the new films. Some just as character backgrounds but some may be fleshing out the big story.
 
This is why there are lots of theories around Snoke and Darth Plagueis because of the focus of some stuff fleshing out the DP story. 
 
A few new fan theories coming out about Rey's origins though. That she is actually a Palpatine, hence the strong force connection. Part of the 'evidence' to this theory is her fighting style. I haven't seen the comparisons but she instinctively does lightsaber moves that have only ever been seen used by Palpatine/Sidious 
 
EP VII obviously hasn't created much depth to characters as there is too much that is still to come. I think you will find that Rey (and possibly even Ren) are far more complex than could be shown in the first movie.
