Paula Cole had an unfortunate aversion to female grooming if I remember rightly, sleeveless dresses and waving her hands in the air proved this.

I had a girlfriend years ago who let things go in that department. She was French and I loved the way she said 'water' and 'guitar' so I let it slide. It was very good of me.

Explains everything. As long as her moustache was groomed it would have been ok.

Yeah, given her deep voice I wasn't going to let her have a moustache as well.

The Blue Magoos weird little hit from '66.

And yes, the song you're thinking of now is Deep Purple's "Black Night"

Very common thing in those days. In an even more blatant fashion local bands would record versions of overseas hits before they could reach the shores. NZ and Oz were masters at this. If the product wasn't available it seemed that you could re-create it.
Also if it wasn't a song palatable to the masses a band would take the tune and wrap another song around it.

Take a song like 'Baby please don't go'. 1935 - Big Joe Williams. 1949 - John Lee Hooker. Van Morrison picked up the song and recorded it with Them - 1964. All just covers so far. Because Them's version was overshadowed by it's B-Side (Gloria) The Who picked the tune up (in their period as The High Numbers) and put new lyrics to it as I'm the Face

BTW - Jimmy Page on Rhythm Guitar on that track if you listen carefully.

So, upgraded the sound systems in the lounge the other day. Purchased a sonos Amp with some Q acoustics 3050i. Neither are audiophile level geek ness in sound, but they do put out a pretty good sound. I compared them to the Sonos Playbar / Sub and the amp just blew them away.

So last night the wife went out, so I killed the TV, and lay down in front of the speakers and just listened. It's such a good way to unwind and when you get a great bit of well-recorded music, it's brilliant. I listened to a bit of Stevie Ray Vaughn, a few Jazz hits, a bit of Nina Simone & some pink floyd. Then to finish it off, and get back more onto my bogan roots, I listened to Jar of Flies in it's entirety. Was absolutely fantastic.

Anybody got any good recommendations of what sounds epic on decent kit?

Giving this a bump again. I've just had on Paul Simon's "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" for the first time in a while. It won't be to everybody's taste but OMG the production is out of this world.

@mn5 that's terrible. Heard better version by pub bands. (as for the cross dressing?)

There's a better version by Them than the one posted, just can't find it on youtube. It is an album version from 1970 without Van Morrison, the keyboards and harmonica. Much dirtier and the guitar does the chugging parts.

I love Bon Scott era AC/DC even more than Brian Johnson’s but each to their own.

Can’t find the post but a recent dig at @R-L s music taste mentioned that The Edge was an overrated shit guitarist.
Well guess what? Rick Beato disagrees
