    Music is a weird one sometimes......whilst I can’t stand the Eagles and dismiss them as the kind of lame, safe, inoffensive shit that people will put on at a BBQ in a desperate attempt to find something everyone likes ( and in the process get the majority whinging that the fucken Eagles are playing again ) I really, really dig Joe Walshes solo stuff.

    @mn5 I can only take Joe's vocals in small doses and would be happy to never hear "Rocky Mountain Way" again. So you like the James Gang?

    Agree with that, definitely his Stairway to Heaven/Smoke on the Water/Epic etc ( ie signature song that I actually don’t like or am completely sick of from an otherwise outstanding artist )

    Yeah I do like a lot of their stuff, quirky lyrics delivered well, nice structure and the man can play a mean guitar.

    Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade, Operators) has a goofy music podcast, with a couple of other jokers, called Fortune Kit. Recently they listened to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I hadn't heard it in over a decade, and a couple of things struck me: It's easier to write songs when nearly half of them is Gilmour soloing (and doing so very melodically); the best bit of several songs was the Gilmour solo and guitar tone.

    So, I decided to listen to some of Gilmour's solo albums. First up was 1978's David Gilmour. If you like his guitar parts and singing, then this is basically a well played and recorded, but laid back, space blues album that nails what makes him special. Recommended, but it's less spacey/psychedelic/prog than Floyd.

    Cheers for that - going on after lunch to listen whilst I "work"

    @tim

    Never much liked Peter, Paul & Mary, but I was really into Noel Stookey (The "Paul in P, P&M) in my teens and revisited one of his albums a few months back. It was still a bloody great listen

    A hugely talented and under-rated musician - and a born comedian who could have had a career as a stand-up comic

    Coldplay are a band you find yourself liking about 3 songs. (for me this one, and Fix You), the rest are meh.
    They do melodies and hooks really well.

    Just not a band you tell anyone you like...

    @r-l Our other discussion has just reminded me of this song - which hasn't aged well at all.

    It's old, and as I say say hasn't aged well. They weren't Elvis that's for sure.
