ah ok, the graphic I saw didnt say that, but then they said later that he holds the record for 7 consecutive rounds he has lead in (last year and this year) which indicates that is correct...I thought I mis-heard.

Spieth now holds a 4 stroke lead at -6 (-3 for today) through 8 over Englishman Willet and a shot back is Johnson, both through 10.

Spieth has had 4 birdies, a bogey and 3 pars.

This is amazing, this tournament. Speith having a bit of a howler after stringing four birdies Looks to be threee bodies in a row if he is lucky

Spieth playing like a weekend hacker on the 12th! Two or three in the water including a massive divot and then into the bunker.

Let's see if he can sort his shit out on the last six holes. Now three shots off the lead.

Spieth with as many bogies as he has pars, and twice as many birdies as pars!

He'll be hating Rays creek!

Willet was paying $61 at the beginning.

My commute to work takes about 40 minutes, so I had to choose a few holes to miss or else get to work an hour or two late.

With Spieth up 5 and heading to 11, I made the call to leave then so I would get to work in time for him to be playing 16-17-18. What an error. By the time I got to work it was almost all over!

Danny Willett is a good golfer, and hasn't come from nowhere. That said, it's still a massive surprise.

It's a textbook long-shot major victory- stay there or thereabouts without ever being near the lead for 3 rounds, then hole a couple of putts on the back 9 on Sunday as the leaders choke. By the time you hit the front you're so full of adrenaline you barely notice, and you only have to hold it together for three holes. You barely have time to think about it, which is exactly how you want to do it.

7 birdies in the final round, and you are still over par after 17 holes!

I know Willett has been doing good things on the Euro tour, but hadn't seen much of him.

Someone pointed out on Twitter the importance of final round pairings.

Don't think it's a coincidence him and Westwood both thrived playing with eachother. A bit like Adam Scott in 2013 when he was paired with Marc Leishman.

In a micro sense, yes. He had a five shot lead, and had he just parred in he would have won comfortably. The first shot at 12 was just a bit offline, but the second was ugly.

In the greater scheme of things, though, he was the defending champion who had been sleeping on the Masters lead for 7 straight rounds. I'm not surprised it took it's toll. I am surprised about the way the wheels came off, though.

Norman just had a bad round, it wasn't one nightmare hole like Spieth.
