Surprised to see former NZ U20 hooker Flynn Thomas play at 6 for Marist RC in the Southland comp.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the positions played in club rugby. I watched a little bit of a club game at the local park on Sat and Sekope Lopeti-Moli (Waikato and Chiefs Dev hooker) was playing openside for Varsity. He scored a try from a long-range try too. From memory, Thomas wasn't that big and was mobile.

@bovidae Yeah, I know. Our third choice Magpies hooker is playing no. 8 these days.

Just noticed that Kahn Fotuali'i is playing club rugby in Manawatū. He's on the Freyberg teamsheet (at fullback) for tomorrow.

watched Kamo v Hikurangi today, which ended up a one sided affair with 2nd placed Kamo dealing to bottom placed HIka 60-5.

Hika were competitive for about 40, trailing by a 15 or so at the break, but fatigue set in, Kamo upped the tempo and ran away with it.

Blake Hohaia with one of his better games, think he got 3 tries, one was a cracker solo effort to open the scoring, but he also blew a try by trying to be too flash in the 1st half by trying a SBW back hander to the FB who wasnt expecting it (and dropping it) instead of drawing and passing to the unmarked centre and wing to run in 30m.

Nikau Graham ran well again and also his kicking was solid today, with a nice kick pass for Brodie Lam to run onto and gallop 40m to score.

Another player I am surprised hasnt been selected in the trial teams, Grayson Thyne. Very good #6 (although playing well at 8 ) Just goes 100% all day, hits rucks, tackles, turns the ball over, runs hard.

#8 for Hika was a tall rangy fella (Brian Williams) but has a motor on him and was into everything, but gee, Hika lacking some size out there, with TR Jnr looking bigger than 3 or 4 of thier players!!

Results are late as HH at home v Mid NOrthern was a 5.15 k/o, which is a shame cos weather turned to custard about then this evening.

Well Southern boys are in New Plymouth tomorrow again, and last couple of weeks I haven't been up there to follow them, they been getting knocked around a bit too. Instead what I have been doing is picking a shall we say a 'village team', one of the 3rd division clubs, really enjoying it, generally make sure I wander into clubrooms and join their for a beer. Loveing it, will do same thing tomorrow and just wander over to Stratford and watch their 3rds play Kaponga where I was last week!

OBM hold thier spot at the top (45) Kamo nabbed a very late penalty to pick up a narrow win to hold 2nd (44) While the sharks keep thier impressive form going and move into 3rd (42) after MN have had 2 low scoring wins the past fortnight as they drop to 4th (41) 12 points clear of 5th place Moerewa.

@tim The problems at Glenfield must be pretty bad as that was their second default in a few weeks.

@stargazer I wonder whether the Herewini who scored is a grandson of Mack?

Fraser Tech's Auckland imports must be helping them. 🙂

They couldnt even field a premier side last year (or possibly year before) so guess it is slightly better than previous but still very sad

You might have noted that D'Angelo Leuila was listed as a Fraser Tech player in the Samoan squad announcement. There may be others but I haven't looked closely at the team lists.

It was based on a comment to me from someone associated with another club.

Broom relishing time playing another sport

Broom relishing time playing another sport

Former Black Caps batsman Neil Broom is probably not going to be a double international but he more than held his own at Kettle Park on Saturday....

I thought this is fantastic. A guy most thought would be in the twilight of his cricket career, making his debut as a premier rugby player.

    Great work from Broomy.
