@nostrildamus at 4% that's probably the point....

IPA and Burgers. Makes sense
I was so happy to read something by some "famous" sommelier, or chef, or some-such a few years back, which pretty much said:
Beer pairing, and wine pairing simplified....
> Drink what the fuck you want, with whatever the fuck you want to eat.I seem to recall it came with the obvious caveats.... drinking a super-heavy Syrah, then trying to appreciate the delicate flavors of a whitebait omelette... is probably something I'd avoid.
And I do seem to have a (racist?) tendency to go with whites with white, reds with red...
but I do try to keep an open, woke, mindset of "the whole pairing thing is buuuuullshit". -

That’s as bad as those wine match charts. The amazing matches will go against the standard “rules”.
Stout goes with anything salty.
A really crisp lager with pork belly.
IPA is a horrible food match beer unless you riff off the hop flavours. -

@crucial If only I'd seen that chart last night before I matched a Pale Ale with a couple of IPA's and then a Brown Ale and some more IPA's.
They all went well with a cheese toasty when I eventually got home.
It is a load of wank to be fair. I constantly mismatch beer and food according to this chart. I had a stout and chicken a week or so back !

The bit that annoys me is how lazy it is. Light with light, dark with dark etc.
If you are going to bore people by making them drink a certain beer alongside your food as a 'match' at least have the guts to be innovative. Contrasts are much more memorable than complements.

And a late night London corner store classic.

Going to add a cider to the thread. I'm no regular cider drinker as most of it seems like cheap supermarket apple juice with a touch of alcohol.
I do keepan eye out for the real stuff though and Peckham's in particular do a good job of real cider using proper cider apples and wild ferments.
Surprisingly also make one of the few hopped ciders around, which is a nice combo.
Anyway just tried this https://www.peckhams.co.nz/products/solstice-201910 months in oak after wild fermentation and wood roasting. Bloody delicious.
Roast up some pork belly and have at it. -
Back to beer and another picked up today was a Saison from Sunshine Brewing in Gisborne.
Nice surprise. First because I have never been a fan of the brewery (just a bit average IMO) but also because there are few kiwi attempts at a Saison that I would really feel fit the bill.
This one really does. Funky, farmhouse flavours with the right level of “sourness “. Just a touch in other words.
Would be a nice food match. Pipi fritters, Salt and pepper squid etc -

Pretty refreshing when I was up there for work on a stinking hot day though I must say, it’s a shame the brewery isn’t overlooking the water, they missed a trick there.

They were one of the early independent breweries IIRC and have been around a long time. The old Gizzy Gold was quite sought after when the options were Lion, DB then Macs, Monteiths and GG
