Loved this album when it came out. I flattened many a battery playing this on my Walkman.
Reckless had so many great songs, this one, Summer of 69’ but it was the ballads that got the most play..

    Big fan too!

Always been a cracking track. Often forget how good it is until you hear it, and then play it again

    Another ripper track!

Both of those songs are actually bloody well written musically. Both very similar structure and my fav bits in both are about 2/3 of the way through with the solo and then bringing it back in for a more powerful version of the chorus. Can tell there are actual musicians involved. Much better than a lot of the crap we are served up today.

@mariner4life have a heart though, it's a sad song. Bet "everybody hurts" by REM doesn't even dampen your eyes

    How about the Italian version?

Hottest sound out of Morrinsville in 1978. Karl Gordon and the four Kaukau brothers.

A friend is working on a cover version.

I would love to get a hold of the masters for that and remix it (not in a DJ manner just to clean up the muddy mix). There is some good, almost Isleys like playing going on there that needs a little clarity and separation to shine through.

I gather that there is software these days that breaks stuff down into the stems but the old 24 track master would be best. IIRC it was a Stebbing recording and considering that their vault goes way back the tapes should exist.

Chris Knox with the indie banner, 1983 - Kerry O

Thanks for the read. Awesome memories. My spell of working in Auckland city was 83-89 and lunchtimes (long ones often) usually consisted of a circuit of the record shops followed by a couple of Elephant Beers (pre-crash).
Pay days in particular were a two album day at least.
Thinking back, in those pre-internet days going to the stores and devouring the music press (RIU, NME etc) was the only way you 'discovered' new music.
The band visits to record stores were awesome and it's sad that it is a side of things that has gone. No bricks and mortar stores and the bands are too up themselves to think of mingling with the public.
Had to laugh at the stories of chart manipulation. Screaming Meemees 'See me go' was the first NZ single to enter the charts at #1 based primarily on pre-sales from one store (I think Sounds Unlimited at the bottom of Queen St).

Blast from the past to see a long lost old schoolfriend of mine in that photo of the Madness store visit as well. I honestly can't remember being there so can't categorically claim it but there is someone in that photo that looks like me, the year is right (1981) and I can see a friend there so I am now digging the dusty archives of my aged mind.

Actually the bit about Robert Bruce being security is ringing bells. WE were all big 'On the Mat' fans as kids and he was probably more famous than Madness.

Intelligent search from Bing makes it easier to quickly find what you’re looking for and rewards you.

No idea why it's not embedding. Still a great track.
