But isnt Queensland at its finest when the world is against them?

    well, historically, yes

    but

this new version of Rugby League is brutal on underdogs. There is one way to play the game, and the team with the talent wins. You can't slow the game down, you can't get a side in to the grind and try and sneak it. If the team has more talent, they win. By a lot.

The Gold Coast yesterday completed nearly every set they had. And they got fucking belted.

    Certainly looks that way.

Tackle resets and head shot laws. Anything else you've noticed?

it's mainly the resets. Resets for inside the 10. Resets for holding on in the tackle. Kicking the ball out is now not a scrum, it's a play the ball.

And then throw in a sin bin for too many set restarts, and you cannot shut a game down now.

There are still different ways to exploit it though. Melbourne play with two running hookers that put constant pressure on markers and 1 defenders until a hole opens up, and then they either pour through, or immediately shift it to the edge if defenders have compressed to cover the hole.

Penrith play flat out defense that keeps teams pinned in their own end, gases them trying to work it out, and play fast and loose with the ball, with their halves keeping teams on the back foot for long periods of time. It's great footy to watch, they play with no fear, but they rarely make a mistake. They must be incredibly fit.

Manly just give the ball to Tommy Turbo and the rest takes care of itself.

Fucking Warriors manage to have one non running hooker with average skills in all other categories.

it appears we might be losing the battle with Canberra to sign Widdop, especially since rumours are getting stronger that they are trying to bring back Chad Townsend for the remainder of the season until he goes to NQLD. He is currently playing reserve grade lol

I know Broncos are rightly copping shite for their talent retention/recruitment strategies but Warriors linked with some interesting names of late.

how can i laugh at the Cowboys paying Townsend $800k a year for 3 years when we are going to sign him, even for a bit?

The Broncos are so good for rugby league over the past couple of seasons

Gordon Tallis went whack! Love on air this morning on thr shit shit stirring players. Says he knows who they are, called them gutless, and promised to out them if they keep it.up, and stop them getting a new job.

    It's a beautiful rant

Of course, it ignores Gordon publicly running Seibold out of town do his mate Kevin could get a job. But at least Gordon stabbed him in the chest, like a real man

@mariner4life I agree with Corey Parker regard the 'old boys' at Brisbane haha. They have too much say and are just as much of a burden as the current crop o players and management haha.

@mariner4life snap - all comes down to the $. If we got a decent deal then it's a good buy imo. A few years out of the Warriors has done him some good. He's still playing pretty well.

From following his Twitter feed, I've had the impression Gould is focusing more on the future talent systems/whatever at the Warriors to build and retain more of the best of the local kids over the long haul. Not so much current recruitment?

I'm not a fan of Johnson, but he'd be a better bet than Nikorima. Both of them run inconsistently hot and cold... but Nikorima is more often cold than Johnson from what I've seen.

i said it earlier, i would take SJ at $400k in a heartbeat. If it's $800k then fuuuuuck

Gonna be an awkward changing room isn’t it?
Weren’t most of the team happy to see the back of him, lots of word coming out about how disruptive he was.
Last to training first to leave etc

There's three players still in the team (by my rough count), so not sure how awkward it will be. Four, I forgot Tohu.

On that level alone it seems weird to bring him back...

Maybe he's older and wiser. Hopefully...

I agree, Sj is a good player and he is the sole reason the Sharks have been competitive of late, given he was injured for most of this seaon. He is not the 800k player he once was and Phil Gould knows this, the Warriors arent complete mugs (not all the time), at 400k he is a has a lot of value. He just has hopefully worked on his locker room etiquette
