Whakapapa is all that counts, blood quantum is irrelevant. It’s based on Iwi and your ancestors lying in the ground, nothing else.
Lots of Maori have anglicised versions of their last name. I have one.
IWL looks more Maori than Fijian.

Ironic that Ollie Norris misses out but his brother, a late addition to the squad, will get to play for the Maori first.
Any other loose forwards that could have been selected?

@bovidae It looks like Devan Flanders doesn't have Maori heritage. Surely he would have been in the squad if he had?
@stargazer That's the thing, players that have Whakapapa will have made that known to McMillan and co. So there are plenty that obviously aren't eligible.
Messam and Karpik are both unavailable, which reduces the options further.
