Would’ve gone to watch Hastings v Taradale, but seeing that game is off, at Bill Matthewson Park watching Tamatea v Clive.

3-0 to Clive, penalty goal to Tianua Poto.

Tamatea lead 5-3, try from a lineout close to line. McClutchie missed the con from wide out.

Clive get the lead back, 8-5. Good crosskick in Tamatea 22 to left wing Anzelo Tuitavuki who caught it and scored in the corner.

Clive start second half in style with counter attack from own 22, finishes with loosehead prop scoring in the corner. Converted, 15-5 to Clive.

Excellent try to Tamatea. Lincoln McClutchie passed to 2nd 5, doubled round and scored between the posts, and converted.

Clive score converted try right from restart.

Clive get their 4th try for bonus point, fullback Poto scores out wide, Clive 27 Tamatea 12.

Both McClutchie and Falcon have got involved, taking it to the line and some good tactical kicking.

Prop Tane Cooper scores for Tamatea in his 100th game. He kicked the conversion - the AR’s kept their flags down but the ref overruled them and awarded the kick.

Both McClutchie and Falcon looked good. Falcon was getting good distance on his kicks out of hand. Placed a superb cross kick in the Tamatea 22 to left wing Tuitavuki for their first try. Tuitavuki just had to stand there, catch it, and fall over.

There was no other obvious standout there who might have played their way in for selection for Wednesday night's Shield defence.

Kianu Kereru-Symes was in a forward pack that struggled - particularly at scrum time.

Magpies assistant coach Josh Syms was there keeping an eye on things.

Two articles about this weekend's club rugby:

Maddison Trophy rugby heads into the last week before the semifinals

Napier Pirate had an important 39-19 Senior 1 win over Tech's Reserve side, to move back into the grade's top four and revive hopes of a return to Premier rugby for the first-round Nash Cup competition next winter.

The sides ended the day each on 17 points, Pirate claiming fourth place by virtue of the win ...

By the way, I noticed on Zarn Sullivan's instagram (and checked the team list) that his dad laced up the boots for the Pirate's game (wearing the 10 jersey). Bailyn was wearing Pirate gear.
