He should have retired in 2015. Although that might have inflicted Foster on us even earlier.

@stargazer know it looks bad. But McKenzie drops in tackle, and primary contact was body on body with arm wrapping high. If he had hit him with arm in the head he would have lost a week.

@kev Last camera angle shows direct contact with the head. Dmac lowering body position is mitigation. I think it should have been a yellow.

@number9 eh? Our bench was the only good thing in that game from our POV.

Bench like coaching was shite, this is the ABs that was pathetic. Coles scored 4 and thr Fijian scored through a rolling maul.

dominated the maul enough to ge ta penalty try - that's some good forward work right there. This Fiji side could be a dark horse if they get some time together, some very good players there, and some very good coaches.

Vern Cotter is a seriously good coach with strnog pedigree.

On the Botia/McKenzie thing - looks bad. One AR with what looks like line-of-sight within 10 metres of the incident didn't even flinch.

My main thing was initial contact was body to body and he didn’t aim high. Mixed thoughts - protect the player, but for me it was a great dominant tackle. That’s what Rugby is about.

Foster agrees that he's found some competition with Fiji.

At least he's aware of his limitations...

I’m really liking Blackadder the Younger. I’d love to see him, Dalton and Akira in the loose. Then bring on Ardie in the second half. Frizzell just doesn’t have it and I’m leaning that way on Sotutu.

It’s a bit concerning that 50 year old Sam Whitelock is the best lock by a proverbial country mile. Hopefully Retallick can get back to speed. Patty T isn’t consistent enough and Scott B gets sent off.

@kev guess the thing is, Dmac is already a lower target, he was low before the guy even lined him up...ideally, for the game next week he doesnt cop a ban because he is a good player, but in reality, I cant see how he doesnt get a break.

Process is pretty clear though - head contact, high degree of danger, it's red or maaaybe yellow. World Rugby are trying to take these hits out of the game,a nd putting the responsibility on teh tackler. It's only going to work if people actually believe that anyone who goes high is going to get pinged - otherwise the risk/reward is unbalanced.

It's ... just that they don't seem to care to apply their own framework.

Really liked Fijian energy with and with out ball.
For ABs, many things worry me but most worrying is: surely we wouldn't put out a far better team against Tonga? Or is that a clever Foster tactic?

Props, cupboard is bare and replacements aren't hungry enough (liked De Groot's mobility though)
Locks: Whitelock 1st on the team list for me.
Blackadder I suspect better at 6 than 7
Dalton best 7 over 2 games and probably would make one of the better 6s (SF looks the part doesn't play the part)
Jacobson>Sotutu and don't play HS with SF
10: BB's kicking and some optiontaking still worries me. Don't think Richie will be too worried but again he still needs to prove he can insert himself in tough matches.
12/13 DH and ALB for me. Ioane still needs to pass and defend consistently.
We don't know who our wings are, best creator was the replacement hooker.
FB: not such a worry, plenty of contenders.
                                Coaching: highly consistent. Consistently mediocre.

@kev guess the thing is, Dmac is already a lower target, he was low before the guy even lined him up...ideally, for the game next week he doesnt cop a ban because he is a good player, but in reality, I cant see how he doesnt get a break.

It’s a hard one. These things happen so quickly. DMAC got up with no problems which would say despite how he looks he didn’t actually catch him. Like you say, he might get time.

@kev Last camera angle shows direct contact with the head. Dmac lowering body position is mitigation. I think it should have been a yellow.

My main thing was initial contact was body to body and he didn’t aim high. Mixed thoughts - protect the player, but for me it was a great dominant tackle. That’s what Rugby is about.

On a second or third look it looks like he is attempting to go low into the tackle, DMac makes it look worse by hesitating and trying to change direction or brace for the impact

That's a shocker. Way to get in your sponsors bad books too.
