@kev Last camera angle shows direct contact with the head. Dmac lowering body position is mitigation. I think it should have been a yellow.
My main thing was initial contact was body to body and he didn’t aim high. Mixed thoughts - protect the player, but for me it was a great dominant tackle. That’s what Rugby is about.
Process is pretty clear though - head contact, high degree of danger, it's red or maaaybe yellow. World Rugby are trying to take these hits out of the game,a nd putting the responsibility on teh tackler. It's only going to work if people actually believe that anyone who goes high is going to get pinged - otherwise the risk/reward is unbalanced.
It's ... just that they don't seem to care to apply their own framework.

Every Fijian tackle has a very high degree of danger

An idiot:
He should have retired in 2015. Although that might have inflicted Foster on us even earlier.
@rancid-schnitzel At least we'd be past Foster by now if he did?

On a second or third look it looks like he is attempting to go low into the tackle, DMac makes it look worse by hesitating and trying to change direction or brace for the impact

I don't agree. DMAc's body height doesn't change appreciably from the picture the tackler sees before committing. He sees Damien is low and launches at him, hitting him high.

Really liked Fijian energy with and with out ball.
For ABs, many things worry me but most worrying is: surely we wouldn't put out a far better team against Tonga? Or is that a clever Foster tactic?Props, cupboard is bare and replacements aren't hungry enough (liked De Groot's mobility though)
Locks: Whitelock 1st on the team list for me.
Blackadder I suspect better at 6 than 7
Dalton best 7 over 2 games and probably would make one of the better 6s (SF looks the part doesn't play the part)
Jacobson>Sotutu and don't play HS with SF
10: BB's kicking and some optiontaking still worries me. Don't think Richie will be too worried but again he still needs to prove he can insert himself in tough matches.
12/13 DH and ALB for me. Ioane still needs to pass and defend consistently.
We don't know who our wings are, best creator was the replacement hooker.
FB: not such a worry, plenty of contenders.
Coaching: highly consistent. Consistently mediocre.@nostrildamus said in All Blacks vs Fiji:

That guy who's scored 8 tries in 115 minutes might be worth another go?

After seeing 2 games I would select this team for the RC
D Mac
Jordan
Reiko
ALB
Havilli
Mounga
Smith
Akira
Blackadder
Dalton P
Whitelock
Retallick
Ofa T. Hopefully fit
Moodey hoping he’s recovered
ColesBench
Taylor
Karl T
Laulalu
Barrett
Savea
Christie never thought I would say that

@tj said Just realised, weren't they meant to have 'vaccinate Fiji' on their jerseys?

Haha Christie that was classic
he got to rucks quickly and cleared quickly. Looked good, and made people around him look good. More please

No he looked pretty sharp I was referring to the quick tap where he bounced off the Fijian guy

All of you worriers and panic merchants, we are clearly keeping our powder dry
-
@steven-harris Yeah, thought Sotutu was up and down, did some good things but wasn't his best outing in Black. The less said about Frizell the better, and yeah, sadly Tuipulotu has not been consistent in Black. Love the guy and what he's done for the Blues, but he hasn't been at his best at test level.
@african-monkey just seems like that number 6 jersey has been vacated ever since Kaino retired …It just goes to show despite Frizell looking the part at super level , that step really is another level

Is it too late to get Vaea Fifita back ?

Really enjoyed this contest ,seeing another repeat of last week would have done nothing for anyone..
Fiji really bought it physically showing the benefits of many of their forwards especially playing in France and Europe in general but I suspect being stuck in isolation and lack preparation finally told especially in and around breakdown accuracy and discipline..All Blacks looked better when both Whitelock and Coles were on the field ..but in terms of consistency I thought Ethan Blackadder playing in the unfamiliar jersey was very solid ..biggest disappointments to me where Sotutu,Tuipulotu and Frizzell..Agree on those three. Also thought Taylor lacked accuracy and the starting two props looked lost out there too.

This! Absolutely this. We have to start developing props that can be successful at set piece and contribute around the field.

I haven’t read the thread yet but when I do I hope to see plenty of comments wondering why our loose forwards didn’t act as a unit.
Sotutu was busy but at the wrong places. Frizzle was a fizzle and Blackadder good but disjointed from the other two.
We were missing Jacobsen doing the straight forward ruck work.
Last weeks trio so much better. -
On the Botia/McKenzie thing - looks bad. One AR with what looks like line-of-sight within 10 metres of the incident didn't even flinch.

And the commentators celebrated the guy trying to take off his head.

If it turns out to be chest on shoulder it will be a good hit. Didn't see a reverse angle and the TMO didn't twitch either. OB director either.

We got 10 running meters out of our starting front row (zero from Bower). To put that in perspective, Fiji got more three times more out of one prop (Ravai, 30) and in total got 52 from their starting front row.
We didn’t start to get anything useful until Coles (26) came on and he and DeGroot (9) managed 35 from the bench (Lomax, 0).
We need better props and a third/fourth hooker. Taylor is tired, and behind Ofa and Moody the stocks are not that good at LH and TH.
