For some reason, this increasing tendency to speak of "inside backs" instead of halfbacks and first five-eighths annoys me immensely.

@bovidae Grindley was posted in the Auckland thread. He and Walden could be a pretty strong midfield.

@tim If Auckland didn't want Grindlay maybe NH could have used him to stay local?

Jacomb is a 1st 5 and was in the Chiefs U20s. Not familiar with the other new signing.

@bovidae Not sure what is going on at NPC, but some problems in Auckland. Lemeki Namoa has signed for Harbour and will be one to watch in midfield.

From a google search, Vereniki Tikoisolomone played for Wanganui in 2019 (he got 13 tries in the Heartland Cup) and is 22 years old. He was 1.88cm and 85kg back then, so not a power player.

Shalfoon was in their squad last year I think. Maybe injured so didn't play?

Shalfoon and Hicks were both down here last year - and both injured during NPC.

Not sure if either was ever promoted to the main Mako squad, but they were certainly mentioned in dispatches about the locking crisis that saw us sign Isaac Ross.

@chris-b Yeah, I remember Shalfoon mentioned in reports with Ta$man. He played for Waikato in the previous season having come north from Lincoln.

@chris He didn't look ready for NPC rugby when he played for Waikato. Two years ago now, of course.

@chris We should have PPP and Strange as first choices and Cirikidaveta in the mix as well.

Dunno whether Alex Ainley is still going for a run most nights?! 🙂

@bovidae It must be at least ten years since Irishman Michael Bent, who must be in his late 30s by now, last fronted up for Taranaki

@higgins Was just looking at that and was quite surprised to see his name, Holland might sign him for the Canes given his love for signing props over 30.

One of the more unfortunate names for a prop.
