Building myself back up

Still aching like a bitch. Should have ordered a massage. Itās hard to sleep despite being exhausted.
Hit gym this morning and was glad I did. Did upper body of course but managed some time on that sit down bike thing. Swimming tonight which should help recovery. Looking forward to getting back to normal next week.

Fuck yeah bro! that is an awesome effort, you mad bastard ha ha
Good idea on the massage, hopefully that sorts the legs out. Man, it'll feel weird running another one next year surrounded by people!!

It will be! I ran past a young couple while running this one and they put masks on as I approached. Hopefully all that stuff will be over by next year

I feel your frustration indirectly through the potential future Mrs MN5. She was training pretty hard for a couple of running events which got cancelled cos of you know what and with the colder months upon us has barely been out for a run since. Naturally sheās put on a shitload of āgirl weightāā¦..( three, possibly FOUR kg ) so is feeling a bit down about stuff. Weāre doing a few walks, occasional park workouts and Iām trying to persuade her to hit the bag too ( I tell her to pretend itās me if Iāve left the towels on the floor, not cleaned up the coffee machine, left a mess in the kitchen etc ). hopefully she joins me hitting it soon cos itās pretty addictive !

Thatās why itās important to ādiversifyā. If you only run or only swim then you got nothing to fall back on if you canāt run or the pool is closed. Thereās always something to do if youāre creative.

Interesting week. I look back to when I did a half marathon 5 or so years ago and how I was so flat, a little birch etc after that and compare it to now. The marathon was much tougher and despite the sore legs Iāve been itching to get back into things rather than curl up in the foetal position. How things change! But yeah, lesson learnt about the legs. Definitely book a massage if I run a marathon next year.
Getting back into the pool was a glorious feeling. Swimming is just the
. Definitely aided recovery despite being a tad cold (which is good sometimes because itās too cold to stay still and you have to keep moving).
Iām glad the marathon is done and dusted and I can go back to a more regular week. Towards the end there I couldnāt do a proper leg session at the gym because of the pain. Iād like to focus a bit more on the gym. Feel Iāve been phoning it in there a bit recently. Iāll also return to the Saturday intervals after swimming. Should be much nicer on the knees!

9 days. Dammit
Drained today but not because of exercise. Letās just say cheat day on Saturday went a wee bit overboardā¦
Been on and off the can making gravy most of the day. Thought maybe Iād eaten something off but gf got me to list what Iād eaten. It was only the usual breakfast of oats, 3 eggs, protein powder and berries, then 4 pieces of vegemite toast, 3 rice cakes with peanut butter, a meat pie, 2 chicken burgers, a bowl of noodles, 4 muesli bars, 2 protein bars, 3 hashbrowns, 5 turkey mince burritos (500g of mince) and a tub (900g) of Greek yoghurt. Also had most of a 400g pack of frozen strawberries.
Gf rather rudely suggested that my disgusting gluttony was the reason. I think she may have a point. Fark thatās ridiculous.

Thatād be considered a healthy day for a lot of lardos I reckon.

Well it continued today as well. Gf reckons it could be lactose intolerance. I donāt eat any dairy other than spot of milk in coffee so perhaps 900g of Greek yoghurt wasnāt the smartest move

Huh ? What are you doing for protein ? I couldnāt live without my cheeseā¦..

Chicken, turkey, eggs etc. Lots of sources of protein. Was smashing nachos not that long ago so donāt know how intolerant I am if it is that.

Chicken, turkey, eggs etc. Lots of sources of protein
Not a dairy product despite some people saying so.
Poached eggs are terrific, I can smash those by the truckload.

Just been to the doc and it appears itās a virus and not my appalling gluttony. Seems like I can also continue to eat dairy. Must say that itās an amazing coincidence but there you go.
Obviously havenāt done anything all week but body probably needed a rest. Wish i could have done it my own terms though.
-
Well last week was pretty shit. Involved a lot of shit actually which was no fun. Ended up going to the doc again and was given antibiotics. Apparently it was a bacterial infection. So not a virus or my gluttony but something I must have consumed in my gluttony.
Whatever the case I was feeling much better on Saturday and managed a walk and some core stuff on Sunday. The enforced rest was actually what the body needed even if it was rather crushing on the soul. Felt great at the gym and pool yesterday. First proper leg day in ages today and it was lovely doing that without pain. But I suspect the Doms will be intense
-
As predicted, the DOMS were relentless. Still have a sore arse from the lunges. The swimming sessions definitely helped alleviate the worst of it. Was way too sore to do a boot camp type workout this morning so asked Hitler to just go the pool. Not sure if that was any better. That prick seems to get a horn off my pain.
-
Back on track for a week then lockdown almost as soon as I got back from my run on Saturday. Bummer.
So back to lockdown routine but must have overdone improvised leg workout on Tuesday because my calf went on the Wednesday run. I stupidly ran another 4km on it but thankfully itās not too bad. May manage a light run tomorrow.
Otherwise lots and lots of core. Pity pools are also closed because that would have been perfect with the injury. Hopefully lockdown will end on Sunday but not holding my breath for that. -
No more lock down but of course my swimming club can't open its doors because of some ridiculous technicality (a school owns the pool). Makes absolutely no sense. Every other pool is open and absolutely jammed. Went to another one on Saturday and there wasn't much social distancing at the oldies' aqua aerobics and learn to swim. But at least the gyms are open.
Anyway, had a very good swim on Saturday then ran home (15km). Struggled with the run but I think this might have been due to a lack of carbs the previous night. I couldn't be arsed making more rice. Lesson learned.

Swimming back on yesterday which was the
. As always, struggled early (my shoulders and tris burn like a bitch for the first few hundred) but went well. Then did a pretty quick 10km then 40min of intervals. Good shit.
Have also started to walk for 45min-hour every night. Will be a bit different with swimming back but I think I'll try to do this as much as possible. Some amazing podcasts out there and I feel I get more out of doing this than lying in front of the TV.

Iāve noticed that for my first set of, well anything, ( punching bag, push ups, dips, chins, whatever )ā¦ā¦I put it down to being over 40. Fuck getting old.

Put youngest through his paces today and one thing that was depressing is that while he doesn't yet have the stamina or training to go long distances, I have to stretch to my absolute limits to keep up with him. That's the depressing reality. We can keep on chugging along for a good while yet, but our best days are over.
