    9 days. Dammit

Drained today but not because of exercise. Let’s just say cheat day on Saturday went a wee bit overboard…

Been on and off the can making gravy most of the day. Thought maybe I’d eaten something off but gf got me to list what I’d eaten. It was only the usual breakfast of oats, 3 eggs, protein powder and berries, then 4 pieces of vegemite toast, 3 rice cakes with peanut butter, a meat pie, 2 chicken burgers, a bowl of noodles, 4 muesli bars, 2 protein bars, 3 hashbrowns, 5 turkey mince burritos (500g of mince) and a tub (900g) of Greek yoghurt. Also had most of a 400g pack of frozen strawberries.

Gf rather rudely suggested that my disgusting gluttony was the reason. I think she may have a point. Fark that’s ridiculous.

That’d be considered a healthy day for a lot of lardos I reckon.

Well it continued today as well. Gf reckons it could be lactose intolerance. I don’t eat any dairy other than spot of milk in coffee so perhaps 900g of Greek yoghurt wasn’t the smartest move

Huh ? What are you doing for protein ? I couldn’t live without my cheese…..

Chicken, turkey, eggs etc. Lots of sources of protein. Was smashing nachos not that long ago so don’t know how intolerant I am if it is that.

Not a dairy product despite some people saying so.

Poached eggs are terrific, I can smash those by the truckload.

Just been to the doc and it appears it’s a virus and not my appalling gluttony. Seems like I can also continue to eat dairy. Must say that it’s an amazing coincidence but there you go.

Obviously haven’t done anything all week but body probably needed a rest. Wish i could have done it my own terms though.

Well last week was pretty shit. Involved a lot of shit actually which was no fun. Ended up going to the doc again and was given antibiotics. Apparently it was a bacterial infection. So not a virus or my gluttony but something I must have consumed in my gluttony.

Whatever the case I was feeling much better on Saturday and managed a walk and some core stuff on Sunday. The enforced rest was actually what the body needed even if it was rather crushing on the soul. Felt great at the gym and pool yesterday. First proper leg day in ages today and it was lovely doing that without pain. But I suspect the Doms will be intense 😬

As predicted, the DOMS were relentless. Still have a sore arse from the lunges. The swimming sessions definitely helped alleviate the worst of it. Was way too sore to do a boot camp type workout this morning so asked Hitler to just go the pool. Not sure if that was any better. That prick seems to get a horn off my pain.

Back on track for a week then lockdown almost as soon as I got back from my run on Saturday. Bummer.

So back to lockdown routine but must have overdone improvised leg workout on Tuesday because my calf went on the Wednesday run. I stupidly ran another 4km on it but thankfully it’s not too bad. May manage a light run tomorrow.
Otherwise lots and lots of core. Pity pools are also closed because that would have been perfect with the injury. Hopefully lockdown will end on Sunday but not holding my breath for that.

No more lock down but of course my swimming club can't open its doors because of some ridiculous technicality (a school owns the pool). Makes absolutely no sense. Every other pool is open and absolutely jammed. Went to another one on Saturday and there wasn't much social distancing at the oldies' aqua aerobics and learn to swim. But at least the gyms are open.

Anyway, had a very good swim on Saturday then ran home (15km). Struggled with the run but I think this might have been due to a lack of carbs the previous night. I couldn't be arsed making more rice. Lesson learned.

Swimming back on yesterday which was the 💣. As always, struggled early (my shoulders and tris burn like a bitch for the first few hundred) but went well. Then did a pretty quick 10km then 40min of intervals. Good shit.

Have also started to walk for 45min-hour every night. Will be a bit different with swimming back but I think I'll try to do this as much as possible. Some amazing podcasts out there and I feel I get more out of doing this than lying in front of the TV.

Put youngest through his paces today and one thing that was depressing is that while he doesn't yet have the stamina or training to go long distances, I have to stretch to my absolute limits to keep up with him. That's the depressing reality. We can keep on chugging along for a good while yet, but our best days are over.

I’m not sure about that. There are really different schools of thought on certain exercises, it depends on the goals. It’s also encouraging that because I didn’t spend years fucking my body up on a Rugby field ( being all but retired before the age of 21 ) the niggles and what not aren’t there compared to some blokes around our age. At 44 I can do heaps of things I wouldn’t have managed at 24 ( although that was peak “London” curries, lagers, zero exercise etc ) so much of it comes down to the individual, genetics etc. Bodybuilders and Power Lifters as one example peak in their mid 30s.

Well yeah I'm much fitter now than 20 years ago but that has alot to do with me not drinking twice a week and drinking ice cream milkshakes for breakfast!

@rancid-schnitzel while not as fit, but def way stronger than I was when I was a gym bunny in my 20s.

THat said in my 20s during the summer I'd play TOuch rugby comp twice a week, play twilight hockey, 7s training, golf to relax on Sundays with mates, plus drinking Thurs-Sat night...coulda been fitter, but were able to get away with the shit diet and drinking due to all the work we put in.

Pretty good week. Just trying to work out the balance in terms of when to do weights. This seemed to work out OK this week.

    Mon: shoulders
    Tues: back and tris
    Wed: bootcamp (full body)
    Thur: chest and biceps
    Fri: legs

I think the swims on Monday and Wednesday nights aid recovery. Probably better to put the legs somewhere else but I'll stick with this for a bit. Problem with training legs on Monday or Tuesday is that they're still recovering from the pounding inflicted on the Saturday. We'll see how this goes.

I'm also now starting a full month of clean eating. My sad version of dry July (Sad September? Slender September?). No cheat days for a month. Gf dropping chocolate for a month. Will be interesting to see how I go. I suspect there will have to be adjustments to avoid low bloody sugar again, but ultimately no junk food for a month😟.

Despite having at least one beer ( but generally no more than two ) over every day of lockdown I’ve still managed to lose a bit of weight round the middle because I think I’ve done much more walking and shadow boxing. The beer I have every day is a real treat but I’m only having it as long as I’ve done something physical during the day, I’m also eating really well although the other half tells me off for my protein portion sizes. Will be interesting if I continue this once lockdown ends but my body seems to be agreeing with it so far. Always dangerous to COMPLETELY deny the body of all treats so be careful me old mate !

It's all about inputs and outputs. If you're in a calorific deficit then it's a mathematical certainty that you'll lose weight.

I'm going to struggle but the main thing will be getting enough calories into me. Otherwise I'll waste away. Which is what the GF is most concerned about.

    Friday already!

Very solid week. Actually tweeked things a bit and put legs on Tuesday. Made a big difference and allowed to me to smash bootcamp on Wednesday much better and without pain. Have decided to chuck in a gym session right after Friday Hitler swimming. Not optimal but gets it out of the way and being back and triceps it works pretty well.

Anyway, today was a 3km swim from Hitler and then back and triceps today. Well hammered.
