He said in a news article that getting top 5, with the amount of doping that goes on, was his goal. He reckons if there was no doping he’d be top.

@machpants shots fired! poor leadership, corruption, and shitty systems by the Int weightlifting association has already cost them spots at this Olympics with fewer weight classes. I think it's under genuine threat of being cut in the future if they can't sort their shit out.

        Ladies golf starts this morning

Lydia is off at 11.41 NZ time and playing with Inbee Park, so a couple of good medal chances there.

My fav Gaby Lopez is off just after 1pm

Can you help her out? She needs something to hang off, apparently...

German dude wins 10km swim. He also won bronze in the pool (1500m). I think that’s the first time someone has done that at the same games.

Good effort by the Australian Bol in the 800m. Poor Aus steeplechase woman was running final on her birthday and blew out her Achilles. Fond memories of that one.

I would only finish that race if there was a current in the right direction.

It would be such a shame to see it removed, it's genuinely one of my favourite sports to watch. It's such a pure test of strength, no bells or whistles or tricks or gimmicks. Just who can lift heaviest.

Lasha Talakadze is such a beast, and it was amazing to watch him do his thing last night. Is he doping? Probably. But it's still great to watch and I'd be so sad to see it go.

@tim skills and rugby experience aside think about the team you could assemble across all the athletes at the Olympics!!

Weightlifting + field events (throwing etc) pretty much secures your front row and maybe a #8 or blindside
Rowers and maybe basketball would be first stop for second row and maybe backrow options
Then why pick actual sevens players for your backs when you can select a bunch of guys who can run sub 10sec!
Throw in a 1st 5 with a decent boot on him (football?) then it's all on.

I think the actual struggle would be finding a scrum that could hold up against the pack you could select!
