so basically we are really good at things in really small boats.

So basically without boat sports our only hope is rugby and shot out.

skinny boats, the national game, and throwing heavy things. seems right.

even the throwing things is looking shaky with Val retiring.

Up to 6th now - and more holes left than any of the other leaders (which isn't always a good thing, but...).

Meanwhile, Australia also on course for a historic result. 17 gold medals so far, which equals our all-time best from Athens (edit: didn't count properly, we actually have 17.).

A slight caveat is we have won at least five gold in new sports or events (BMX, Skateboarding, Womens C1, Womens four, Womens 50m freestyle). So it's not exactly apples with apples but a great result nonetheless.

Men's hockey and women's beach volleyball in gold medal games so every chance we can get more. Boomers a medal chance but I can't see them getting past the US in the semi.

Australia are having a great games. heaps of medals, but behind that heaps of PBs in the running etc. Two girls in the 1,500m final as well (one setting a new national record in teh process). Bol last night was fantastic.

All over we are seeing PBs (as we should with peaking for the right time) but also huge ORs and WRs.
The cynic in me would put some of this down to COVID allowing some avoidance of testing during training but probably it has been the time off between peaks that has allowed extra strength and speed to be developed.

I've seen a few gripes about swimmers being able to win multiple gold medals at the Olympics, but I expect no such complaints about that in the kayaking 🙂

                    Definitely not ....

But, as discussed a few pages back, 2 medal events are being removed from canoeing next games.

Yet, yet ..... fucking swimming added even more medal events with fucking mixed relays.

I would be in favour of them adding medals in the pool for bombs off the diving platforms.

They're not removing to canoeing medals, they are changing the types - same number of medals

@mariner4life Yeah the athletics has been really fun, I actually have enjoyed our performances more than the swimming despite the fact we haven't won a single medal.

We've still got more to come as well - our men's 1500m runners have a chance, so do our female high jumpers and javelin throwers. And the young bloke currently sitting second in the decathlon. Would love one of them to sneak a medal.

It’s a different vibe. The swimming team qualifying is incredibly hard (have to match or beat slowest time in final from previous world championships) and they’re expected to medal. Anything less is a failure or choke. The runners don’t have the same expectations and you can see that in how much more relaxed they are. They’re just happy to be there and it shows.

I like her style and approach as well, goes out all guns blazing at the start and just trusts her strength, condition and training to get her through to the finish. It seems a little braver to lead from the front and back yourself to stay there than what it does to try and run people down in the home straight...

All over we are seeing PBs (as we should with peaking for the right time) but also huge ORs and WRs.
The cynic in me would put some of this down to COVID allowing some avoidance of testing during training but probably it has been the time off between peaks that has allowed extra strength and speed to be developed.

I wonder the effect of no crowds too. Would hurt certain athletes that feed off the vibe, but maybe it helps others? Allows them to focus better?

Lydia playing well so far over the opening 9 holes of 2nd round and -5 for the day (-6 overall). Even started the day with a bogey so great going

And another birdie on 10......shes playing some amazing golf today

Up to 6th now - and more holes left than any of the other leaders (which isn't always a good thing, but...).

This course is really open to good scoring. Brilliant conditions too

Bad weather coming so they may be culling the last round and making it a 54holer. Decision to come after completion of this round

His crash last night going to have some pretty serious implications for cycling funding.

@williethewaiter Which rider was at fault for the crash? I wasn't in the mood to watch the replay last night.

Gatey - just touched wheels with rider in front.

just terrible timing as front rider had finished as per strategy and was pulling out - by time he saw too late to get back on.

Gates needed to do a 'soccer injury' and roll back on the track to stop the race. Pretty unusual for a race to continue when a crash occurs.
