I think he assumed it was grounded, then the players blew up at him so he thought he'd check... He definitely was not confident he saw it grounded.

Pies need to adjust to his ruck reffing and just get numbers there, as the commentators note he awards the penalty even if the players aren't actually going for the ball.

I don't watch aerial ping ping so don't get the reference outside of Collingwood having the best uniform in the AFL.
