The Robertson brothers have got a very interesting backstory being based in Kenya.

This is the shittiest ending ceremony ever.

They are trying to rip off a Sunday afternoon at Yoyogi park and fucking that up.

Just get some Yosokoi dancers out there and this would kick off.

Thank you muchly, my new fave thing! Cheese, grace and ham-style dancing, kind of like summer camp for not quite out samurai aerobics and super cute sergeant-majors

edit: my only criticism, too many dicks on the dance floor.

Looking way ahead to Brisbane 2032, what's the chances we will see some form of cricket and netball? And possibly League, although that's highly unlikely.

Beach rugby would be a great addition....

I'm sure they get a shitload. And it's not like that money goes straight in the NZ athletes' pockets, whereas I'd imagine the aussies and yanks get to keep theirs. Some of those other countries certainly pay well. No wonder the Italian high jumper was happy with his gold

It would be great if netball was added. But, I think any new sport added now has to be gender equal. So, it would have to come with men's netball. Which would probably reduce its chances to zero - as it isn't a particularly internationally deep/competitive sport even on the women's side. But is pretty much zero on the men's.

                            Which is a shame.

In the real world netball is going to appeal as a potential path to about 95% more female athlete's than boxing and weight lifting. But, probably painted into a corner on this one.

why not mixed? all the social indoor netball ive played was mixed, there are plenty of bike that could get up to speed

could we see them try and get some sort of AFLX as an exhibition...apparently its played more than you think, there's a european league and everything...only competing for silver of course

I'm actually surprised USA pay anything. Thought it was all pretty much college based, plus outright pros for the sports that actually pay for themselves.

                                  As for the NZ structure..

PEGs are paid based on a commitment from athletes to continue campaigning, and is effectively a salary to support their buildup to their next major event.

When I got to this stage of the article I was thinking, man, that's putting a tough choice on Carrington. To get $180k plus she needs to commit to keep going. Then I read further I see here payout is capped at $60k despite getting 3 golds plus a bronze. So, if she wants to just retire it will be less torturous choice.

Multiple medallists like canoe sprint star Lisa Carrington, who won three golds, receive the one PEG, which means she and fellow K2 500m champion Caitlin Regal each receive $60,000 under the HPSNZ system,

Interesting the Olly-Whites get 25k each. That's a lot of spread of resources, 25k per squad member for not medalling. I do however think that was a commendable effort that will advance NZ football, they're a much different propostition from the hoofers of tradition who are starting to advance deeper at youth level and now at this almost senior level tournament, well done.

members of Olympic teams finishing in the top-eight receive a minimum of $25,000.

I expected the US and Australia to offer more cash for medals. I guess thats what happens when you win so many it becomes commonplace

I think that's old thinking. I expect most of the athletes are pros now

Looking way ahead to Brisbane 2032, what's the chances we will see some form of cricket and netball? And possibly League, although that's highly unlikely.

That's so fucking stupid and is a great example of wokeness gone wrong. What bloke anywhere would begrudge the IOC adding Netball to the games? Why are the females getting done out of this opportunity?!!

Netball is played in how many nations? About 40? Probably only in Commonwealth nations? Is that enough to get accepted as an Olympic sport, especially as - as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, it's only played by women at representative level?
